Before I reach out to the rest of the team, could I ask you to try one more thing?  Could you go to the Dashboard of your main site > Settings > Permalinks, and then click ‘Save Changes’. Then try to see if you can view the blog posts?

We don’t have an option for enabling or disabling avatars during installation, so you should still be able to upload avatars. You can use the WordPress importer to export the site you’re working on and import it into the template site. You will have to do a little cleaning up of any duplicated content, check the menu, etc. but that would my suggestion.
