How can I enable the avatars?

Hello, I am happy to say hello. I take this opportunity to congratulate you on this great project.

I have installed CBOX OpenLab with the “Avatars” option disabled. I figured I could do it after installation, but I can’t find the option. I can’t upload photos to user profiles.

How can I solve that?

I appreciate your comments.

Hi Kirsch,

Thanks for reaching out!

We don’t have an option for enabling or disabling avatars during installation, so you should still be able to upload avatars. However, you will only be able to change your own avatar – not the avatars of other users. They can upload their own avatars by going to My Profile > Change Avatar. (You’ll see the ‘Change Avatar’ button just beneath the avatar (which should be the CBOX OpenLab logo if you haven’t yet upload an avatar). You can also upload your own avatar this way.

I hope this helps! If this didn’t help, or if I’ve misunderstood what you’re asking, can you please add some screenshots?

Thanks!

Bree

Hi Bree, I’m happy to say hello to you again. I do the following:

When installing Wordrpress Multisite, disable loading avatars without bearing in mind that this is essential for profile photos.

Make these settings before starting the WordPress Multisites configuration:
+ Settings / time zone + date format + time format.
+ Change the default permalinks to title only.
+ Disable comments and avatars.
+ Disable clipping and set values to zero.
+ Clean the Desktop.

Add some screenshots:

Hi Kirsch,

Thanks for the screenshots! In your screenshot 2.png, I believe the value should be 1 to enable avatars.

Can you try that and let me know if it works?

Thanks!

Bree

Hi Bree, thanks for your reply. You are right, previously I was checking random values and the number 1 was the solution for this case. But nevertheless, I notice that it is not the solution for all the parameters: currently the blog posts of the main site are not visible, although by default it has the value 1 assigned. In this section of configurations, I identify that the values vary between null, zero, 1, 2 … alphabetic values among others. Do you know if there is documentation about it to find out how it works?

Hi Kirsch,

Glad that worked for the avatars!

For the blog, it looks to me like you have the correct value (1) entered for ‘Blog Public’, so I’m not sure why you can’t view the post. I can reach out to the rest of the team to ask if anyone has suggestions.

However, the CBOX OpenLab theme wasn’t built for use with a blog on the main site, so it currently has minimal styling for blog posts and replies. (There’s a ticket for this, but addressing it will depend on future resources.)

I’m not sure how you intend to use the blog, but as an alternative you could create a separate sub-site for the blog. For example, the City Tech OpenLab uses a project site called the Open Road for news, events, support, and other things that are relevant to the OpenLab Community.

Bree 🙂

Hi Bree, I understand the example you give me about Open road. The use of this blog is for all study groups in my community. With this being the main site, I would like to report general news … the same as you do on Open Road, but without having to open a new site for this. The sites of the groups will handle the news of punctuals of their projects. The blog of the main site would be common to all groups in the community. I would not like to have to manage another blog when I feel that it would be useful to position the general news from the main domain. Something similar to how it works here: https://commonsinabox.org/archives/category/releases … but with the blog function.

I appreciate the support.

Thanks!

Hi Kirsch,

Sure, that makes sense!

Before I reach out to the rest of the team, could I ask you to try one more thing? Could you go to the Dashboard of your main site > Settings > Permalinks, and then click ‘Save Changes’. Then try to see if you can view the blog posts?

Thanks!

Bree

Hi Bree. Sorry for the delay in my reply. I tell you that I did this that you recommended and it worked (image: case 1). In the same way I did it with the budypress responses section in email, noting that just by saving, the correct translations of half the messages appeared (image: case 2). This opens more questions for me, but I will open a new thread for it.

Thank you very much Bree!
