Hi Ray
Thanks
1. Yes I updated to 1.0.3 [sorry that detail not included in OP]. Child Theme remains v 1. [Single site install not multi site]
2. Browser cache cleared [not deleted] – no change
3. Viewing Inspector/Network I see a whole lot of resources loaded. They all have status of either 304 not modified or 200 OK.
Are there some resources in particular that you are interested in? There’s a good few .css and .js files loaded with 304 status.
I was thinking of re installing the theme but as that seems to be done by the CBOX plug in rather than manually not sure how to do that.
Thanks

Thanks. Looks like an interesting plug in – however it does not seem to have the feature of being able to attach a category to a document [based on the screen shots on the plug in page].
BP Group Documents is now updated to be compatible with BP 1.7. That update also improves security, I have installed the plug in and it seems to be working fine now [except for this double notification issue].
@ray I think it is definitely something to do with BP Group Documents that is causing the problem as you suspect. There is supposed to be a settings menu showing but I can’t find it!! I have taken this up with the plugin developer.
FYI The plugin is available here: http://lenasterg.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/buddypress-group-documents-for-bp-1-7-and-wp-3-5-1/. The Author has stated [on BP forum] that she is in process of uploading to WP Plugin repository.
Thanks for your help and I will update you with any news.

May 10, 2013 at 2:26 am #2635GordonRParticipantHi Ray and thanks for looking at this
1. All users have this problem so whatever it is it’s happening with default settings.
2. When I said working fine before we got RBE to work properly I mean that no users were getting two notifications when a document was uploaded.
3. If I understand your question correctly, my personal notification settings do NOT have notification for Documents selected – see screen shot.
4. Your fix for the default settings for notifications referred to in the other post will solve most of my problem once I instal it tomorrow, as the default will be daily digest. It will only be a problem for Group Admins who want to keep track of what is happening as the site rolls out to the user group (which has started). Nevertheless if we could figure out what was causing it that would be good.
5. I note that Lena X has updated BP Group Documents for BP 1.7 but I am not sure if CBOX is ready for use with BP 1.7? [not to mention that Lena implies in her call for testers that version of GDBP may not be ready for prime time].
Thanks again for your help.

Do you have any idea about why I can’t change this default
I am having trouble altering the [DEFAULT] email settings.
As Group Administrator I am in Admin/Settings.
The last set of settings controls the default settings for Email Subscription Defaults
The current default is ‘All email”. I want to change this to ‘Daily Digest”. But when I do so and save, no change is made. [AND same behavoiur when I try to change it to any other setting – looks like it accepts change, radio button changes, but then press Save and it reverts back to All Emails.]
Any suggestions?Thanks
May 8, 2013 at 3:57 am #2624GordonRParticipant@ray, @scott Any thoughts on the above? Has only happened since I got BP Reply by Email to work on our new VPS host. The problem may partly relate to BP Group Documents but not entirely as it was playing well with Group Email Subscription until then.
Thanks

That’s great.
But I am not sure if CBOX supports BP 1.7 yet? Is it OK to updgrade BP to 1.7 and run CBOX? Maybe yes but I did see some caution on this forum when 1.7 was first released.

April 13, 2013 at 6:38 am #2453GordonRParticipantHi Alison
Although Buddy Press Group Documents is no longer supported it appears to still work fine. I am using it with CBOX on a portal with 5 groups each of which has a Documents area (separate from the Forum( which appears to be working OK.
It does not support folders/directories within the Documents area, but it does allow you to add a category to each document, and then filter all the documents in that category.
it also does not allow more than one document to be uploaded at a time.
Thus I have a structure
Group 1
– Forum
– Documents area
— Category A
— Category B
Group 2
– Forum
– Documents area
etc
There is an earlier conversation about installing and setting up BP Group Documents somewhere in this help forum between myself and Ray and/or Scott about this, you might be able to find it by searching or browsing.

April 8, 2013 at 1:03 am #2406GordonRParticipantHi Ray
1. Adding Gmail I get the error message “BP RBE can’t initialise. Navigate to the settings page to address the webhost warnings.” In any case that error message is there before I attempt to fill in the gmail details but it is possibly regenerated once I do. I logged into that GMAIL account just before to check it wasn’t a password error.
I am already on the plugin settings page and I can’t see any ‘webhost warnings’.
2. The only item in /wp-content/bp-rbe-debug.log is this:
[25-Feb-2013 08:49:28] Plugin deactivated!
3. Thanks re the Code – checking with VPS people. Don’t think they have a free trial (although can pay for just one month) but they have a set up fee; maybe they would waive it if it didn’t work.
4. Wiki of hosts would be great (especially if it also included Australia!!)
Thanks
April 2, 2013 at 1:52 am #2372GordonRParticipantHi
A more precise question:
The well known VPS service I am looking at has not used BP RBE but says:
“As long as the PHP code does not require fopen_url or php exec(), we can do just about anything from a Linux perspective and do host quite a variety of sites, code, and plugins.”
Does this look like it will work?
ThanksApril 1, 2013 at 11:54 pm #2370GordonRParticipantHi all
@ray. Having read the instructions more closely I see that BP RBE probably won’t work on a shared server, I need a dedicated servier or VPS. I’ll move to that when we can allocate the additional $$. But will that fix this problem?
Thanks

April 1, 2013 at 11:52 pm #2369GordonRParticipantHi
As I understand it this is a question for your hosting company not CBOX. You can ask them to create a sub domain and place a fresh instal of WordPress there & then follow the CBOX instructions.
Hope that helps.
March 2, 2013 at 8:32 am #2150GordonRParticipantHI
I spoke to soon. I have not managed to change the error message despite editing the register.php file.
I have
1. Installed the CBOX Child theme [and made the various adjustments to the CBOX Theme options make it look more or less the same as before – including adjusting the home page widgets – slightly irritating].
2. Copied the Register.php file from the parent theme.
3. Copied the file into the Child theme at root level – ie in the Child theme directory not in any of its sub directories. [?? is this the right place?]
4. Used Dashboard/Appearance/Editor to change the text of the error message in register.php [of the child theme] & saved changes and confirmed change made in php file.
5. Logged out & clicked through from a notification to a group … and unfortunately the error message has not changed – ie it is still “User registration is currently not allowed.”
Anything obviously done wrong?
6. To check I copied the register.php file from the Child theme to the parent theme (after backing up the register, php file in the parent theme of course). This DID produce the desired result. So I conclude I have correctly edited the Register.php file BUT it is not being loaded; so perhaps it is in the wrong place in the Child Theme? Or something else going wrong?
Thanks for any advice.

March 2, 2013 at 6:35 am #2148GordonRParticipantHi Ray
Yes. It is in trying to upgrade that I get this problem.
Installed CBOX approx 15 Feb. A few days later attempted to upgrade BuddyPress Docs as I noticed the ‘upgrade’ menu item at Dashboard/BuddyPress Docs/upgrade.
Then as per original post. IE I get the message “upgrade complete”. But immediately under it is the warning “Thanks for updating BuddyPress Docs. We need to run a few quick operations before your new Docs is ready to use.
Click here to start the upgrade.“
Thanks
GordonMarch 2, 2013 at 6:31 am #2147GordonRParticipantThanks. I’ve implemented the Child Theme approach for now, but thanks for the tip in relation to the language file.
One possible improvement to the CBOX instructions re Child Themes is to note that if all you need to do is make some minor alternations to the .php files, then all you have to do is copy them into the main directory of the Child Theme. This arises as the CBOX child theme is more complicated than a simple child theme and non expert users like myself may be confused about how to copy the relevant file [in this case register.php] and where to put it – in this case in the CBOX Child Theme directory (not in /assetts, /engine etc).
March 2, 2013 at 6:27 am #2146GordonRParticipantThanks Scott.
I would be interested in knowing in due course when you are satisfied it is all OK with GD bbPress Attachments. I didn’t realise that plugin worked with BP forums (as opposed to bbPress site-wide forums). I gather that his is becoming or will soon become a non issue with BP 1.7.
In the meantime I am using BP Group Documents to create a separate Documents area within each Group. Seems to be working OK so far – and that is what I want – to create a document library, mainly for people to upload and share PDFs in a private topic specific environment. It does concern me that the plug in author states that they are no longer able to work on it. I think this function is needed by many people and while Attachments and Wiki style docs are fantastically useful they are not quite the same.
Hence I am hoping someone will pick up BP Group Documents …
