    Hi

    We have added BP Group Documents so that each Group can have a document library [as opposed to a Wiki].

    It has been working fine.

    We have now got Reply By Email working [hurray] and users get notification of forum posts and can now reply to them.

    But every time a document is uploaded the user gets TWO different notices of forum posts. See screen shot.

    One notice allows the user to view the document directly and the other does not.

    Any reason for this and any idea how to get rid of the less useful notice?

    Thanks

    @ray, @scott Any thoughts on the above? Has only happened since I got BP Reply by Email to work on our new VPS host. The problem may partly relate to BP Group Documents but not entirely as it was playing well with Group Email Subscription until then.

    Thanks

    Hi GordonR,

    You say BP Group Documents was working fine with Group Email Subscription.

    Judging from the screenshot, I don’t believe this is the case.  Perhaps the problem lies with your notification settings.

    The first email seems to be generated from your personal notifications for uploaded documents.  Check your notification settings under your profile > Settings > Notifications and see if you’ve enabled emails.

    The second email probably comes from Group Email Subscription.  If the BP Group Documents plugin adds an activity entry into the group stream and you’ve set up your group email setting to “All Mail”, then you’ll receive a second email.

    If my assumptions are wrong, let me know.

    Hi Ray and thanks for looking at this

    1. All users have this problem so whatever it is it’s happening with default settings.

    2. When I said working fine before we got RBE to work properly I mean that no users were getting two notifications when a document was uploaded.

    3. If I understand your question correctly, my personal notification settings do NOT have notification for Documents selected – see screen shot.

    4. Your fix for the default settings for notifications referred to in the other post will solve most of my problem once I instal it tomorrow, as the default will be daily digest. It will only be a problem for Group Admins who want to keep track of what is happening as the site rolls out to the user group (which has started). Nevertheless if we could figure out what was causing it that would be good.

    5. I note that Lena X has updated BP Group Documents for BP 1.7 but I am not sure if CBOX is ready for use with BP 1.7? [not to mention that Lena implies in her call for testers that version of GDBP  may not be ready for prime time].

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi GordonR,

    I don’t have access to the BP Group Documents plugin because it is not listed in the wordpress.org plugins repo, but I’m still guessing it’s a setting within BP Group Documents.

    Does BP Group Documents have a notification settings panel within the group or is there a settings page in the WP admin dashboard for Group Documents?  If not, this notification setting is hardcoded.

    Reply By Email only sends out error emails back to the sender.

    To test if it is indeed a problem with Reply By Email, disable it, but leave Group Email Subscription and Group Documents enabled.  Next, post a new document and see if you get both emails.

    I had Group Docs running, and only received one email. I switched from Group Docs to BuddyDrive. It rally is a great plugin for sharing documents. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddydrive/

    @MySchoolStuff

    Thanks. Looks like an interesting plug in – however it does not seem to have the feature of being able to attach a category to a document [based on the screen shots on the plug in page].

    BP Group Documents is now updated to be compatible with BP 1.7. That update also improves security, I have installed the plug in and it seems to be working fine now [except for this double notification issue].

    @ray I think it is definitely something to do with BP Group Documents that is causing the problem as you suspect. There is supposed to be a settings menu showing but I can’t find it!! I have taken this up with the plugin developer.

    FYI The plugin is available here: http://lenasterg.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/buddypress-group-documents-for-bp-1-7-and-wp-3-5-1/. The Author has stated [on BP forum] that she is in process of uploading to WP Plugin repository.

    Thanks for your help and I will update you with any news.

    @gordon (GordonR)

    Please feel free to register with my site to try out BuddyDrive. I suggest you create a group, and friend me, to test out the plugin’s capabilities.

    Everything for BuddyDrive happens from your profile, so test it from there.
