    Hi

I am having some trouble setting up this.

I have created the gmail account and enabled IMAP.

I am not able to save the settings in the BP RBE settings page. That is when I check ‘use gmail’ and enter my gmail credentials the settings page sits around for a while and then fails to update (ie it unchecks use gmail and deletes my  credentials).

Before and after I have this error message: BuddyPress Reply By Email cannot initialize. Please navigate to “BuddyPress > Reply By Email” to fill in the required fields and address the webhost warnings.

So I am trying to fill in the fields but it will not let me

    Wp 3.5.1, BP 1.6.4, Chrome

    Thanks

    Gordon

    Hi all

@ray. Having read the instructions more closely I see that BP RBE probably won’t work on a shared server, I need a dedicated servier or VPS. I’ll move to that when we can allocate the additional $$. But will that fix this problem?

    Thanks

    Gordon

    Hi

    A more precise question:

The well known VPS service I am looking at has not used BP RBE but says:

“As long as the PHP code does not require fopen_url or php exec(), we can do just about anything from a Linux perspective and do host quite a variety of sites, code, and plugins.”

Does this look like it will work?
    Thanks

    Hi Gordon,

    Missed your question there.

Have you checked the RBE debug log? Check /wp-content/bp-rbe-debug.log and see if any error messages are in there.

Also, when you attempt to fill in your GMail info on the settings page? Do you get any error messages after submission?

About the code, RBE doesn’t use fopen_url() or exec(), but it does use set_time_limit().

See if the VPS in question offers a free trial. If so, test RBE there and see if it works.

Your post gave me an idea to start a wiki page about webhosts that fulfill the requirements of RBE! Will try to gather some info from some of the RBE testers out there.

    Hi Ray

    1. Adding Gmail I get the error message “BP RBE can’t initialise. Navigate to the settings page to address the webhost warnings.” In any case that error message is there before I attempt to fill in the gmail details but it is possibly regenerated once I do. I logged into that GMAIL account just before to check it wasn’t a password error.

I am already on the plugin settings page and I can’t see any ‘webhost warnings’.

    2. The only item in  /wp-content/bp-rbe-debug.log  is this:

    [25-Feb-2013 08:49:28] Plugin deactivated!

    3. Thanks re the Code – checking with VPS people. Don’t think they have a free trial (although can pay for just one month) but they have a set up fee; maybe they would waive it if it didn’t work.

    4. Wiki of hosts would be great (especially if it also included Australia!!)

    Thanks

    Hi Gordon,

For 1), are you saying that there are no additional warnings section when you navigate to the BP RBE settings page?  Do you get a “IMAP extension for PHP is disabled” warning?

For 3), let me know how the VPS goes and if you need any additional help.

For 4), I received one response from a user using pair.com located in Pittsburgh.  Not Australia I’m afraid!  Still need to reach out to other RBE users so I can fill in the wiki page.
