Thanks Ray – This helps a lot. They are at BP 2.9.3 now and want to cautiously climb up to the current version of BP (and CBOX).

Hi Scott,
Are you sure the MLA requires such an older version of BuddyPress? BP 4.2 was released in December 2018.
If that is the case, CBOX 1.1.1 is the release where we bumped compatibility to BuddyPress 4.2. The plugin versions for CBOX 1.1.1 can be found in the plugin manifest…[Read more]

Is there a way to figure out which versions of the CBOX plugins will work with an old version of BuddyPress – BP 4.2? The MLA for various reasons needs to stay at 4.2 but upgrade the CBOX plugins to the highest compatible versions.

Fixed it. In the settings for the new server, I had to set my multisite domain as the default.

Hi CBOX Community,
I’ve just migrated my CBOX Classic site to a new server with the same hosting provider. After lowering TTL for 24 hours, I used their “Point to another server” tool to move the DNS Zone file from the old server to the new.
The main site is located at https://sunygeneseoenglish.org
My multisite is configured to treat blogs as…[Read more]

Hi everyone,
Chris found a possible bug or broken link in my profile > my settings > email notifications > individual group email settings > go to my groups.
Around a year ago, the link in the words “my groups” used to take us to a fatal error message, and now, it takes us to a screen that says “User’s Profile ….. [user type]”.
I recreated…[Read more]

Do you need a separate bug report or issue on Github that this particular cron job isn’t working by default? Are there any other OpenLab cron jobs that are missing from this list?
For the short term, I will add it manually from WP Crontrol.

Thanks, Ed. It looks like the cron job is not scheduled. It would be called
bp_groupblogs_cron
. If you want to create it manually using wp-crontrol, it should work./wp-admin/tools.php?page=crontrol_admin_manage_page&action=new-cron
. Set it to ‘hourly’. -

Hi Boone,
After installing WP Crontrol, there are only 12 cron jobs on my OpenLab site:
Hook, Recurrence
wp_privacy_delete_old_export_files, Â Once Hourly
wp_version_check, Twice Daily
wp_update_plugins, Twice Daily
wp_update_themes, Twice Daily
update_netowrk_counts, Twice Daily

Hi Boone,
I just wanted to let you know, that at least for external sites, that is not our experience at all. Specifically for external sites that are syncing through RSS, our lived experience is that until someone specifically visits that group, no emails or notifications go out.
For example:
geneseo.sunycreate.cloud is an OpenLab running the…[Read more]

This isn’t quite true. WP’s pseudo-cron is throttled in such a way that it can’t be run “too often”, and in any case, the individual jobs will only be run on schedule. But your general point is correct: on low-traffic sites, certain jobs may not…[Read more]

Hi Ed,
Thanks for this! Wordpress certainly has a few e-mail related issues, this is the first that I have read about this particular issue, Im going to default to Bree and Boone on this but will also see what I can find in the interim –

Hi Everyone,
Last week, one my pilot instructors told me that emails from OpenLab were being sent out late or not at all. This led me down a rabbithole that I wanted to share, but it also left an important question. Has anyone turned off WordPress’ Auto Cron Job, and instead created a real Cron job that runs on a schedule.
WordPress is designed…[Read more]

Hi Ray,
We tried the mu- plugin but it did not work! The file types showed in list of allowed mime types, but we could not upload LaTeX files.
We then installed your recommended plugin (wp-add-mime-types) and that did work! -

That makes sense. Anyone who wanted to go with that change would need to be prepared to lose or adjust their custom logo.
