That makes sense. Anyone who wanted to go with that change would need to be prepared to lose or adjust their custom logo.

March 1, 2021 at 8:58 am #8844MaryParticipantHi everyone,
I agree with Ed that while it might seem a small thing, the header issues do interfere with what I’m trying to do: provide students and faculty a platform for building beautiful websites. I like all of the things Ed suggests, though I can’t yet imagine how a slimmer universal header like the one on this page would interfere–Ed, can you give an example of the icons that would suffer if this were done? I’ve always thought that the openlab branding on all user sites was a good thing, so I’m wondering what benefits would be lost if certain users could turn it off.

Thanks! I downloaded the plugin and got it activated. It doesn’t seem to have fixed the issue (attaching screenshots). Just sharing in case it’s possible there’s something else going on or another adjustment I could try. Thank you! Mary

This is all very exciting–congratulations on the funding! We are not in a rush, so a meeting in the new year would work for our needs. We need a help system in place by May, so we have time to collaborate with you on a help site that could be imported and further customized for our installation. Stephon and I have had many conversations about our needs for such a site, so if you’d like the perspective of CBOX OpenLab-ies who are not IT/instructional designers, we’re happy to be involved.
Many thanks for all you do. The instructors who are piloting OpenLab in their courses this semester (myself included) are reporting great experiences!

December 10, 2020 at 9:36 am #8696MaryParticipantThank you, Ed and Syelle! This is very helpful. I’ll share our process in case it helps others. We started with a subsite (a project within OpenLab–Stephon taught himself what a new user would need by being a new user and noting all of his questions). We then realized that the help system on the main page might be better and tried to replicate what CityTech has in place. Stephon did this by creating pages in our admin dashboard and then struggled to figure out how to make them navigable in the same way as CityTech’s site. We discovered the “Help” section only after that task was underway. I think what you’re both saying is that even if we were to recreate those pages within the “Help” section of the admin area, we’d still need to add plugins to make it work as it does on the CityTech site (and even then, it might not work?). Since we’ve already poured considerable time into this, what I’m dreaming of is a zoom call where we can show what we have and get recommendations on the simplest path forward. I’m very happy to share our mess and we could even record it to share with others. If you’d like to join, Syelle and Ed, I’d be delighted. An impromptu OpenLab workshop via zoom?
November 23, 2020 at 8:09 pm #8650MaryParticipantThank you, this is excellent!! These examples are very helpful, and I’ll be sure to reach out when I start pulling this initiative together. I’m very excited about the possibilities.
November 4, 2020 at 7:32 pm #8595MaryParticipantThank you! I didn’t have any content on the Calendar page, so I just removed it from the menu.
https://unewhavendh.org/wp-admin/network/site-info.php?id=62 (does not exist)
https://unewhavendh.org/wp-admin/network/site-info.php?id=66 (does exist…create as a site for a course this semester)
Does that help make sense of what the debug log means?

With the direct link, though, I was able to check it and I have attached a screenshot of what I saw. Interestingly, the help page did display properly when I next tried to look at it. There are still other pages not loading, though.
I’m uploading the debug log created with the new command in the config file.

Thanks for your speedy response! I have tried to do the things you suggest and have some screenshots to show you just how lost I am. I cannot find a “permalinks” option under settings at https://unewhavendh.org/wp-admin/network/settings.php. I’ve attached a screenshot of what I see.
I have also included two screenshots showing all of the plugins installed.
WP_DEBUG
was already set totrue
inwp-config.php
(I suppose from a previous attempt to correct something on my part). I am not sure what you mean about copying any errors I see at the bottom of the “page not found” page.-Mary

Thanks for this help. Stephon and I are working together on this. I just checked that the main menu has the correct URL and it does match the page we’ve been editing (I’ve attached a screenshot). The URL for our site is https://unewhavendh.org.
In order to get the help pages updated, I’ve added Stephon to the OpenLab site, but not as an admin. I actually can’t for the life of me figure out how to confirm if I’ve added him as an author or in some other capacity (when I go to the dashboard for our main site, I can’t scroll down to see “users”). I’m sharing in case this is part of the issue.
Any help you can provide will be much appreciated!
-Mary
Thank you!
