Thanks Ed, for starting this thread, and Troy for weighing in!
At the City Tech OpenLab we do this manually, but are interested in learning about plugins that others are using.

November 12, 2021 at 12:27 pm #9099BreeParticipantHi Ed,
Thanks for reporting this!
@cbox_admin Boone, would you be able to take a look at this? I’m able to reproduce the issue when I try to update WP Grade Comments on openlabdev.org. I’ve attached a screenshot. Thanks!

None of these can be changed in the Dashboard.
@cbox_admin or @r-a-y could probably provide you with more guidance about how to make the customizations. Thanks!
October 11, 2021 at 11:38 am #9046BreeParticipantHi Kirsch,
Sure, that makes sense!
Before I reach out to the rest of the team, could I ask you to try one more thing? Could you go to the Dashboard of your main site > Settings > Permalinks, and then click ‘Save Changes’. Then try to see if you can view the blog posts?
Thanks!

October 11, 2021 at 3:28 am #9044BreeParticipantHi Kirsch,
Glad that worked for the avatars!
For the blog, it looks to me like you have the correct value (1) entered for ‘Blog Public’, so I’m not sure why you can’t view the post. I can reach out to the rest of the team to ask if anyone has suggestions.
However, the CBOX OpenLab theme wasn’t built for use with a blog on the main site, so it currently has minimal styling for blog posts and replies. (There’s a ticket for this, but addressing it will depend on future resources.)
I’m not sure how you intend to use the blog, but as an alternative you could create a separate sub-site for the blog. For example, the City Tech OpenLab uses a project site called the Open Road for news, events, support, and other things that are relevant to the OpenLab Community.

October 10, 2021 at 4:19 am #9039BreeParticipantHi Kirsch,
Thanks for the screenshots! In your screenshot 2.png, I believe the value should be 1 to enable avatars.
Can you try that and let me know if it works?
Thanks!

October 8, 2021 at 12:41 pm #9030BreeParticipantHi Kirsch,
Thanks for reaching out!
We don’t have an option for enabling or disabling avatars during installation, so you should still be able to upload avatars. However, you will only be able to change your own avatar – not the avatars of other users. They can upload their own avatars by going to My Profile > Change Avatar. (You’ll see the ‘Change Avatar’ button just beneath the avatar (which should be the CBOX OpenLab logo if you haven’t yet upload an avatar). You can also upload your own avatar this way.
I hope this helps! If this didn’t help, or if I’ve misunderstood what you’re asking, can you please add some screenshots?
Thanks!

Thanks for the additional feedback, and good to know that the bulk adding feature would be helpful!
I’ll be sure to keep you updated as we look towards bringing this functionality to CBOX OpenLab.

September 24, 2021 at 7:01 am #9004BreeParticipantHi Syelle,
The email address you used to test invites on the City Tech OpenLab is not the one associated with my account, so what you did there was send an invite to join the OpenLab with that email. If you go to ‘Invite new members by email’ and use the email associated with my account, you will get the same error.
However, you should still be able to invite existing members, but search by email instead of username. So, you’d go to the group > Membership > Invite New Members, and in the first section on that page, ‘Search for community members to invite to your group’, you can enter an existing member’s email address and you’ll see their display name appear.
See, for example, in the attached screenshot. (This is a test account on our dev site, associated with the email address I’ve begun typing.)
We do also have some new functionality on the City Tech OpenLab where faculty can add a list of students via email (we have a post about it, if you’re interested.) This is the first semester we’re really testing in out on the OpenLab, but if it’s working well we could look into adding it to CBOX OpenLab in the future.
I hope this helps!

I’m not familiar with that plugin or the work that Ray did to modify it. But I think he’ll be able to answer your question better. Thanks @r-a-y!

September 17, 2021 at 4:37 am #8990BreeParticipantGreat! Thanks for the update Syelle!
September 17, 2021 at 4:21 am #8989BreeParticipantThanks for the detailed report, Syelle!
I’ve put in a ticket for this: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/commons-in-a-box/issues/367
