I have a very new installation of CBox OpenLab and want to invite a student and faculty colleague to create accounts and pilot the platform with me. When logged out of my admin account at our domain (http://unewhavendh.org), I get the following error message when I click to sign up for an account. I don’t see anything in the registration setup page that suggests I would need to enable registration, but perhaps I’m missing something?

    Hi Mary,

Thanks for all the details! I should be able to help you fix the issue with the registration page.

When you go to Network Settings page in the Network Admin Dashboard (which should be here: http://unewhavendh.org/wp-admin/network/settings.php ), under Registration Settings > Allow new registrations, is “User accounts may be registered” selected? If not, please select this and save changes. Then, check to see if the registration page is now enabled.

If you’re still getting the “page not found” error, can you check the pages on the main site Dashboard (http://unewhavendh.org/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page), and let me know if you see a page called Register?

If do see the registration page, you’ll probably want to create a list of whitelisted email domains, so that you can restrict signups to colleagues from your institution. You can find instructions for this here: https://commonsinabox.org/member-registration

I hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any more questions!

    Best,
    Bree

    Hi Bree,

Thank you! I was hoping it would be that simple. I noticed when I made the change that there are two other options:

    • <label>Logged in users may register new sites</label>
    • <label>Both sites and user accounts can be registered</label>

I think I want all users to be able to create projects or clubs, and I’d like all faculty to be able to create courses (which I think means they could all set up sites), so is one of those options better? Or will the “allow new registrations” option allow for that?

Also, is there more detailed documentation that I’m missing? I was using this: https://commonsinabox.org/member-registration

    Thank you very much!

    Hi Mary,

    Great!  I’m glad that worked.

Good question about the other options, but you can leave the setting as is.  New users will be able to create new groups/sites, so no need to change anything.

And, your question has uncovered a gap in our documentation!  🙂  We’ll be updating it to make this part of the registration settings more clear.

    Thanks!

    Bree
