I just discovered that it seems the main OpenLab site — and I guess all the course sites have a default 10 MB of storage space – which is very small! I need very quickly to increase this storage limit — how do I do this?

And – what is a reasonable storage size for a course site.

I have read that you have to go to ‘Settings’-> ‘Network Settings’ to do this for a WordPress multisites — but I do not see that option on my Admin dashboard.

Ok – sorry I guess I found it in Network Settings – I don’t know why I could not see that before.!!!

    Hi Sally,

    Glad you found it!

Regarding your question about a reasonable size for course sites, in case it’s helpful I can tell you a little bit about our experience with the OpenLab at City Tech.

We limit individual file uploads to 10MB, and set site quotas at 300MB.  We’ve found this is more than enough in most cases, and if necessary, exceptions can be made on an individual basis (in Network Admin > Sites > search for site and Edit > Settings).

We also try to make OpenLab members aware of size limits, how to optimize large files (e.g. reduce large images before uploading, convert pptx to pdf), and best practices for sharing large files, including hosting externally and embedding or linking out whenever possible.

    Best,

    Bree

Thanks for those guidelines-I’ll go in and make those limits to keep it under control.
