I’m going to put this here but I wonder if it would go better on github. For that matter Matt, how do you see the relationship of this group and things on github?

My first frustration with CBox is the slider widget. I’d like to propose two changes:

    1) if there is no title and no excerpt for a Feature then don’t put the

    <div class=”flex-caption”>…</div>

    in the html

    2) put an option in the settings for the caption to appear below the image instead of on top of it.

    Thoughts?

    Hi Dale,

For theme-related dev questions, I think Github would be best for that as our theme developers are more active there:
    https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cbox-theme

As to whether to ask questions in this group or Github, Matt can better clarify, but as a rule of thumb, if the question is more dev-oriented, post it on Github; if it’s more of a general question for the CBOX community, post it here.  Just my two cents.

In general, I’d agree with Ray, but I’d say that our preference is that issues be raised here first for discussion and testing and then moved over to Github as necessary for implementation; in general, in this space, we’re trying to foster community around the project and ideally to have users of CBOX sharing work with each other. We try hard to be responsive in these forums, and I think it’s valuable for users of the system to see what others are doing (and what problems they’re running into).

Just wanted to let everyone know that I’ve begun on improving the slider. Here’s some of the stuff I’m working on or has already been implemented

    • Cleaner code
    • Dropped Flexslider for BXSlider for better cross browser support and video support
    • Integrate oEmbed/Video support (!!)
    • Allow users to point slides to custom URLs
    • Full control over the slider text (including html)

If you have any other feature requests, this is the time to bring them up 🙂

The new slider is sounding great…  Couple of additional thoughts:

Provide an ‘x’ on the caption to allow the user to turn-off the slider caption to better see the photos
Provide an option for the site designer to do the same
Provide an option to adjust the width of the slider caption bar. (in an early version on an ad hoc basis the width was sometimes only a third of the screen.  For some layouts this was appealing.)
I noted from earlier comments that some designers requested the ability to hyperlink the caption.  I personally think this is a small point.

I’m looking forward to the new slider – thanks for all your hard work.

Just one request: an option to adjust the opacity of the slider caption bar.

    Thanks,

    Alan

The new slider looks and works great! Thanks so much for your work on the Bowe and others.

One issue I’m having is that it’s throwing an error saying that ‘cmb_initialize_cmb_meta_boxes’ is not a valid callback when features-slider/setup.php calls

    add_action( 'init', 'cmb_initialize_cmb_meta_boxes', 9999 );

Everything works (and works great!), but that error shows up, even when I have WP_DEBUG set to false and/or commented out in wp-config. The way I’ve fixed it for now is by taking the cmb_initialize_cmb_meta_boxes function from metaboxes/example-functions.php and copying it right into features-slider/setup.php, below the add_action call to it, with a quick change in it so that it keeps referencing the file it needs (metaboxes/init.php). This seems like a bad solution, so if you have thoughts about a better way to fix it that’d be great. I’m running on a WP Engine staging site.

Really digging the ability to hide the caption, link to an external URL, and embed videos!

A nice bit of research on sliders/carousels’ usability and design
