Hello, here again. I have been doing translation work progressively. I have noticed that buddy press brings some translations into Spanish, but not all of them are listed. On the other hand, the section for groups configuration is clear, although some elements of the interface are not visible in this list, therefore I cannot translate them there.

Texts like “My profile” and all the drop-down list, the texts of the login box and the bar “YOU ARE HERE / HOME” have not been translated automatically, so I would like to know what is the correct way to do the translation of menus and other sections in CBOX that are not covered by budyprees or groups.

Hi Kirsch,

The text strings you mentioned like “You are here” are a part of CBOX, not BuddyPress.

How are you doing the translations at the moment? If you are translating with help from a plugin like Loco Translate, you’ll need to translate for the commons-in-a-box textdomain as well.

When the translation is at 90% for a specific language, I believe WordPress will send the translation out. I don’t quite remember the entire process. @cbox_admin can probably fill in the gaps.

Thanks for the ping. @r-a-y is correct that the best way to contribute translations is through https://translate.wordpress.org. The Getting Started section in the handbook is a good place to start https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/translating/glotpress-translate-wordpress-org/#getting-started

After submitting translated strings, one of the language editors must approve them before they’ll count toward the 90% threshold. I’m not sure how this process works inside the translation team. https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/ might be a good resource.

There was a new forum topic about customizing various strings in CBOX:

So I thought I would take a closer look at the Loco Translate plugin.

Loco Translate works quite well, but there is currently a bug in CBOX that prevents Loco Translate from loading their custom translations: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/commons-in-a-box/issues/374

In the meantime, before the next CBOX release, you will need to manually replace the /wp-content/plugins/commons-in-a-box/loader.php file with this one:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cuny-academic-commons/commons-in-a-box/1.3.x/loader.php

Then you can use Loco Translate to modify the various strings for the commons-in-a-box plugin and they should be applied across your CBOX site.

Chris says “It looks like the Openlab-Theme does not have a POT file. We would have to generate one to use Loco Translate. Does a POT file exist for the OpenLab theme? Is this something that the CBOX-OL team could check if we attempted to generate it?”

The OpenLab theme’s strings are covered by the commons-in-a-box plugin, so you only need to translate the strings from the commons-in-a-box plugin.
