It seems that with 1.0Beta3, that the greyed out caption at the bottom of the Feature Photo spans the entire box, previously it was only in the left corner.  Is there a toggle for this?   If not, I suspect for some photos we will need to play  around in photoshop adding a bit more dark space the bottom of the photo.

Also for one of my feature photos, the bottom of the photo was cropped so that in the caption box, the top half of the box was the lower portion of the cropped greyed out photo and the lower portion of the caption box was greyed out white.

Is there an optimal photo size that we should be targeting to avoid the previous two issues?

Lastly, where does one put the links for the slider features?  At the moment, clicking my photo takes me to the “Darn it…. Nothing Found” page.  Is this added to the feature photo or to the Feature Post?

Hi Gary – Maybe @Bowe can shed some light on optimum image sizes for the slider and the overlay functionality.  As for your last question, I just set up my slider to use featured images from a category, and when I click on the image itself (not the overlay) it automatically links to the post.  I tried putting a link in the content of the post – hoping that would generate a link on the slider, but that didn’t seem to work.  It’s strange that your slider images are acting differently.  Maybe Bowe might have some ideas on that too.

Hi Gary – I think I understand your last question – it seems that when you set the slider (Homepage>>Slider Setup) to “Show Site Features” and click on the image – you get the “Darn it” screen, but when you set it to “Show Featured Post from a Category” and click on a slide – it links to the featured post.

I’m using “Show Site Features,” and the slides are taking me to those posts with no problems (with the URL [domain]/features/[title]. I’m having a related problem, though: I need to have links within the caption text enabled, as they are in the slider in use at http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/. Any hints on how to do that? Thanks!

Hi Kathleen – I just opened up a ticket for links in the captioned text.  Will let you know what developer say.

Hi Gary – I retested and found that permalink still doesn’t work for me, so I opened up a ticket for the issue you reported.  Will let you know.  Thanks!

@gdavis0007 if you get taken to a “Darn it page not found” page, that means you need to update your permalinks. Go to settings > permalinks and just update your settings (you don’t actually have to switch to a different permalink structure, simply update them once). This will fix it.. It’s a annoying WordPress thing, maybe we can find a way to fix this in the future.

Regarding the slide sizes.. The slides are cropped automatically. Since the images on the single pages have a different size then the slides in the slider, there is no ideal size. I realise this is not ideal, but it’s best to pick an image that “works” on single posts/posts and inside the slider. After you’ve uploaded an image you can use the editor to crop it yourself if needed.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks Bowe!  That did the trick for my permalink issue.  Gary – let us know if you still have issues.  Thanks.

‘Show site features’ now works as I expected in Safari.

But images do not show on iPad – just a ‘? in a box’.

Is this just a typical ipad issue or is there a specific file format to use for wider compatibility?

P.S.   The grey area overlay at the bottom of the slide is a nuisance. Workaround to add a black rectangle to each slide is ok, but needing trial and error to work out its size.

Hi. Any updates on the ability to create links in captioned text?
