I’ve installing Cbox, downloaded and installed the theme. When I activate it, I get a blank screen. The site is blank and I have no access for administration from the front end. Help?!?

    Hi Kent,

As a first step, can you try setting WP_DEBUG to ‘true’ per the
    instructions here? http://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress

That will give us some info on what is happening. Please report back with
the errors you are seeing. Thanks!

    Best,

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for the quick response and suggestion. Here is the error report…

    Fatal error: Uncaught exception ‘ICE_Export_Exception’ with message ‘Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2014/03. Is its parent directory writable by the server?’ in /var/www/myFOSSIL/wp-content/themes/cbox-theme-1.0.7/engine/ICE/utils/export.php:190 Stack trace: #0 /var/www/myFOSSIL/wp-content/themes/cbox-theme-1.0.7/engine/ICE/utils/export.php(132): ICE_Export->populate_dir_props() #1 /var/www/myFOSSIL/wp-content/themes/cbox-theme-1.0.7/engine/ICE/schemes/scheme.php(211): ICE_Export->__construct(‘dynamic’, ‘css’) #2 /var/www/myFOSSIL/wp-content/themes/cbox-theme-1.0.7/engine/ICE/schemes/scheme.php(223): ICE_Scheme->__construct() #3 /var/www/myFOSSIL/wp-content/themes/cbox-theme-1.0.7/engine/api/scheme.php(24): ICE_Scheme::instance() #4 /var/www/myFOSSIL/wp-content/themes/cbox-theme-1.0.7/engine/infinity.php(211): infinity_scheme_init() #5 /var/www/myFOSSIL/wp-content/themes/cbox-theme-1.0.7/functions.php(16): require_once(‘/var/www/…’) #6 /var/www/myFOSSI in /var/www/myFOSSIL/wp-content/themes/cbox-theme-1.0.7/engine/ICE/utils/export.php on line 190

In the last statement, the misspelling of ‘myFOSSI’ instead of ‘myFOSSIL’ is accurate and not of my doing after the fact. The folder is titled ‘myFOSSIL’.

    Hi Kent,

How did you install the theme? It looks like you installed the theme by manually downloading and installing it.

If you didn’t manually install the theme, please let us know.

Either way, please remove the ‘wp-content/themes/cbox-theme-1.0.7’ directory. This should revert to WordPress using the default theme.

    Then, in this guide:
    https://commonsinabox.org/documentation/installation

    Follow step 5.

If you are still running into problems, the error message that is shown: “Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2014/03. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

Will need to be solved. Check if you are able to make uploads in WordPress first before doing further debugging.

    Hi Ray,

I used step 5 of the installation guide to install the theme, I didn’t manually install it. As you suggested, I removed the ‘cbox-theme-1.0.7’ directory, but now all I get is a blank page with no error statements. Thus, I couldn’t try to follow step 5 again.

If you remove the CBOX Theme directory from ‘wp-content/themes/’, when you access your “Appearance > Themes” page in the WP admin dashboard, WordPress should revert to the default theme. Is this not happening?

It also looks like there is something wrong during the installation of the CBOX Theme as usually when the theme is installed, it will rename the theme’s directory to ‘cbox-theme’.

What type of server are you running CBOX on? IIS, nginx?

Correct, this is not happening. The ‘cbox-theme-1.0.7′ theme directory has been removed and from the front end, I get a blank page with no error statements. I cannot get to the WP Dashboard.

It’s a Linux box with the following configuration:

    Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu)

    php 5.3.2

    mysql 5.1.33

    Wordpress 3.8.1

What happens when you access the WP admin dashboard? Still a blank page?

If you are still getting a blank page, try using the following WP_DEBUG lines:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress#Example_wp-config.php_for_Debugging

And navigate to the admin dashboard or frontend.

This should log any errors to wp-content/debug.log. Please copy and paste whatever you see in debug.log here.

Also, is this a brand-new install or an existing WP install?

This is a brand-new install. The admin dashboard is visible and I can change to another theme which again makes the main site visible. As you suggested, I followed the directions for activating the debug log, but the log file is never created. With define(‘WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY’, true) I get the following error on all pages:

Notice: Undefined variable: where in /var/www/myFOSSIL/wp-content/plugins/bp-user-profile-map/upm.php on line 343
