    Hi everyone!

I’m working on a CBox site which is currently active (www.pcond.ca/pooc) for an open online course. It’s set up so that the moderator writes a post and people taking the course participate by writing comments under that post. We are having some issues wrt the comments functionality…

    > Users are not receiving email notifications whenever someone comments on their comment (even though that setting is on in their profile’s notifications settings..). I can’t figure out what is stopping these notifications. Other notifications seem to be working fine.

    > I need to figure out a way to allow users to edit (and possibly delete) comments. I tried the plug-in “Simple Comment Editing”, which is a simplified version of “Ajax Edit Comments”, but it stopped working with the recent 3.6.1 upgrade. Any other recommendations?

    Thanks for you help!

If you are using WordPress’s native comment functionality, then the behavior you’re experiencing is correct.

You need to download a WordPress comment email subscription plugin (like this one) in order for users to be able to receive emails for comments.

One thing you could consider is if you are running a WordPress multisite installation, you could create a new group with BuddyPress and then attach a group blog to that group with the Group Blog plugin.

Next, you could use the Group Email subscription plugin so blog comments that are made on the groupblog are sent to users in your group (provided that the user has subscribed for “All Mail” group notifications). This could be overkill for your needs, so you might just want to look for a regular comment subscription plugin here.

Hope that helps. Let us know if you have any problems with the details I described or if I am misinterpreting your problem.

    Hi Ray,

Thanks for your help. The plug-in you suggested wasn’t updated for 3.6.1, but I found another one called “Send email only on Reply to My Comment” that seems to be working.

Do you (or anyone!) have advice about allowing comment editing?

    Thanks!
    Caitlin

Simple Comment Editing works for me.

Here’s a screen cap on WP 3.7 with a regular user:

It only works for users without the capability to edit comments. So if you’re an admin, it won’t work for you.

You could also try WP AJAX Edit Comments, but I haven’t done any testing. FYI, I usually don’t worry about the “Compatible up to” tag. WP 3.7 just got released a few days ago, so plugin authors haven’t had the chance to bump the version number yet.
