Commons In A Box 1.0.1
I’ve just released version 1.0.1 of Commons In A Box. Version 1.0.1 contains a number of minor fixes, notably:
- Plugin updates: BuddyPress 1.6.3, BuddyPress Docs 1.2.9, Bebop 1.2.2
- Fixed a bug that prevented the bbPress plugin from posting activity items when a site is set to be invisible to search engines
- Improved the group email subscription default settings
- Better device responsiveness for the Commons In A Box theme
Download Commons In A Box 1.0.1 from the wordpress.org plugin repository, or click the upgrade button in your WordPress Dashboard.
I upgraded and received a host of issues…how can I revert to 1.0?
Issues:
-Theming is now inconsistent between pages (see below links). Header size is different and background color changed.

http://www.afrugalreality.com/blogs/
-I receive empty boxes w/ red ‘X’ when I attempt to save in CBOX Theme Options
-BP Checkins is now unresponsive (Could be BP 1.6.3)
Quick update:
I apologize for the unbelievably brief post above. I provided no WP version, or anything helpful so let me try again.
Issues occurred last night on Safari and Firefox browser. I cleared the cache*, reset plugin folder, disabled plugins, slept, woke up, and all is hunky dory (could have been the Red Bull).
Software:
WP 3.5, BuddyPress 1.6.3
Browsers:
Chrome, IE9, Safari, Firefox
Again, thank y’all for this project. CBOX is tremendous!
*Browsers, WP Super Cache, and MAXCND
Hi Ben – Glad to hear things are working now. My guess is that the browser cache was the culprit here – between updates, the cbox-theme sometimes changes the way it builds its CSS stylesheets, and they may need to be flushed in order to see the updates.
Enjoy using Commons In A Box!
Hi,
I’m new to WP/BP and have seen your video about BP1.7.
Thereafter I detected CBOX. I installed it and WOW it works fine !
I have to port an existing DrupalCommon2 site a.s.a.p.
This will not be a problem for me on an export/import level.
My question are :
1. should I wait for BP1.7 or start with WP/CBOX.
2. Will there be a kind of migration from CBOX to BP1.7
3. Is there a BETA of BP1.7 available
TIA Raymond Tress, Sweden
Hi Ray – Cool, glad you like Commons In A Box!
There’s no reason to wait for BuddyPress 1.7. For someone new to BP, the only important change in BP 1.7 is what we call “theme compatibility”: before 1.7, BuddyPress required a theme that had been built with special BP functionality, while after 1.7 BP will work with any WP theme. So, 1.7 will be a major improvement for people who already have a WP theme that they want to use, but don’t want to bother converting it to use BP. However, it doesn’t sound like you’re in that position – you’ll be using the Commons In A Box theme, or at least you won’t be starting with a different WP theme.
As for your other questions: BP 1.7 won’t require any migration tools (other than a few behind-the-scenes changes that BP will make automatically when you upgrade). The BP 1.7 beta should be available very, very soon: follow http://buddypress.org/blog for details.
Thanks a lot Boone for the immediate and detailed answer.
I definitely will give it a try this weekend.
Last 2 questions :
1. are there in general any restrictions using 3rd parts plugins like s2Member for membership management ?
2. Will it be possible to switch to any other WP theme if BP1.7 is out ?
TIA
$regs ray
1. s2member and its ilk should work fine with BP/Commons In A Box
2. Yes, though depending on your theme, there may be a bit of styling work to do.
Hi Boone
You are a saint. Wish I had noticed Commons in a Box last November…
I see on the BP blog you posted a great item on 30 Jan by Jay Collier of Maine Learning Net in which he sets out the set of plug-ins used for their project.
I notice a. that you advise them and b. that they use the BP Group Documents plug in.
Elsewhere there are conflicting reports about the reliability of that statement and very clear statements that it is not supported.
I can’t see any other solution that would allow members to post documents to groups that only the group members would see.
Alternative solutions seem to involve like setting up bbPress forums and using S2 Member to protect the pages to members of specific groups. A working Group Docs function would make life a whole lot easier ..
The BP Group Documents plugin is no longer supported by its author. I don’t recommend committing to it, if you’re beginning a new site.
I’m hoping to do some work in the next few months on upload functionality for BuddyPress Docs, which would fill the missing gap. Watch this space for more details.
