We have decided to simplify our site (www.planetearthlings.org) for the next few months as we prepare for a big International Day of Peace event. Want to keep our current theme/format, but turn off CBOX and all social networking functionality (memberships, buddypress plugins, etc) until we are ready to run the site as a membership community. Want to know the following:
1) How to turn it off, but make it so we can easily turn it back on?
2) Keep content already created, but not make it accessible? Not sure if this is possible or if there is a way to redirect URLs so that anything within a certain folder gets forwarded to a certain address.
Thanks for your assistance. Cheers, Greg
An easy way is to go to the BuddyPress “Pages” settings page and changing all the pages to - None -
:
https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-for-multisite/#network-admin-settings-pages
This will ensure that your BuddyPress pages will not render anything.
Once you’re ready to bring your BuddyPress functionality back, change the pages back to what they were set to before.
The more, aggressive option is to simply disable the CBOX and BuddyPress plugins. However, if you do this, you might have to re-enable certain plugins when you’re ready to bring your BP functionality back.
Hey Ray…
Thanks so much for the information. We decided to simply leave all the CBOX/BuddyPress turned on but then redirected all the main directories (Groups, Forums, etc) so they and all sub-files and folder go to another page. Deleted the menu items and turned off membership. Will see how that is working over the next few days and if we run into problems I’ll test out your suggestion.
Cheers,
Greg
