I have to ask the embarrassing question… how do you update to BP 1.7 (or any other plug-in update)?  I can’t find a mechanism to do plug-in upgrades at all!  I have, however, noticed once in a while that the toolbar shows upgrades are available (5 at last count), but clicking to get to the upgrades page shows me a page that says no updates are available.  And then the toolbar stops showing the notification… strange.
I have found the ‘My Sites’, ‘Network Admin’, ‘Dashboard’, which has ‘Updates’ as a button on the left.  Within that I can see ‘available updates’ which gives me the option to ‘check again’.  Everything is said to be up to date… however I don’t believe I have ever done an update and I know BuddyPress 1.7 is out there for me to play with!  Is there a setting somewhere that might have done the updates automatically?  As noted above, I’ve seen a notice in the toolbar once in a while (can’t replicate this) showing updates as being available, but no way to do the update…

    Hi Broc

I have the same issue, and I am not sure if my solution is the correct way of going about things, but here it is.

I deactivate CBOX, clear my cache (on WP Engine), go to the updates, “check for updates” (if the update is still not showing), update the necessary plugins, activate CBOX again

    A clue…:

I tried the ‘Update Network’ function and after some delay got this:
    Update Network

    http://blog.mydomain.ca/admin

Warning! Problem updating http://blog.mydomain.ca/admin. Your server may not be able to connect to sites running on it. Error message: couldn’t connect to host
I’ve replace my actual domain with ‘mydomain’ because this is a private blog I don’t want advertised!

Of the four sites I have created I have one site for the administration group that has the subdirectory name of ‘admin’.  I didn’t see anything preventing that name from being used, but now that I see it I wonder if it’s a reserved name?  it’s also the first site alphabetically, so maybe the function is failing on the first site for some other reason and not trying the others.

Was writing my update as you posted, MySchoolStuff!

I will see if your method works for me… but good to know I’m not the only one with the problem!

The method of deactivating the CBox plug-in appears to have worked.  I didn’t even have to go looking for updates – the list was fully refreshed when the plug-in deactivated.  Still, this would seem to be a kludge to get around some root problem!

BP 1.7 installed now.  I’ve deactivated the BP Template Pack plug-in and we’ll see if everything works as advertised!

Thanks for the hint @MySchoolStuff !

    Hi Brock and MySchoolStuff.

I forgot to mention that CBOX does in fact hide updates to CBOX plugins like BuddyPress until CBOX is updated to include that compatibility.

Thanks MySchoolStuff for answering Brock’s question.

Thanks for the feedback ray. I assumed this was a WP-Engine caching issue.

So when will CBOX be updated for Buddypress 1.7?

And is there likely to be any disadvantage to upgrading to 1.7 autonomously when CBOX does upgrade?

    Thanks

    Hey Giles,

I recently upgraded to 1.7 and most things worked fine, but there were a couple issues that were real deal-breakers and I ended up down-grading.

I don’t know if it’s just my own setup or what, but my ‘Invite Anyone’ plugin stopped working. My site has registration deactivated, but normally Invite Anyone allows invited people to sign-up anyway. This stopped being the case after upgrading to 1.7. Also, my top bar disappeared after upgrading and reappeared after downgrading.

Again, not sure if you’d have the same issues, but that’s what happened on my site.

    Hope that’s useful!

I definitely would like to hear the answer to when CBOX will be updated to be compatible with BP 1.7. I’m wanting to use CBOX for my new project, but I need to know things will work as they should first.

    Hi everyone,

We’re tentatively looking at releasing an update when BP 1.7.1 is released as BP 1.7 has a few minor bugs.

However, you can do what some people in this thread have done and that is to manually upgrade plugins that you rely on if needed.

@dan-jones – Have you tried upgrading to the latest version of Invite Anyone?

Nope – I’m running 1.0.19. Thanks for the heads up on that…strange that it did the update for Buddypress but not Invite Anyone, unless the IA update was super recent.

Either way, I’m more than happy to wait for an official CBOX update to get my hands on BP 1.7 and other upgrades.

    Thanks again!
