    Hi,

RBE worked well until recently but stopped working for no apparent reason. Messages sent from an email account may or may nor appear as Forum topics but are not send to the Forum members. RBE is connected to a Gmail account and messages are forwarded to that account.

Invite Anyone also stopped working – it does not send invites. Also, when it was still working, I could not change the settings, like enabling the change of the subject line or increasing the number of people that can be invited from the 5 default. It looked as if the changes were accepted but after refreshing the page parameters returned to their default.

The above are major problems as we heavily depend on these features. Additional, though not critical (not sure we will use a wiki),  problem is that the wiki is gone. I disabled it long ago but could not bring it back to life – after enabling the plugin its settings link was dead and also mysite_URL/wiki is a dead link.

I am using wp 3.8.1, CBOX 1.0.7. CBOX is installed on a secondary site on the network.

    Thanks!

    Eyal

    Hi @Eyal –

Sorry you are having these problems.  I can open a ticket to have the dev team look into these issues, but first some questions.  When these stopped working – I just wanted to confirm that this didn’t happen after installing another plugin, or after upgrading to CBOX 1.0.7 (and new version of BP) ?  Do you notice any javascript errors (if you have Firefox Firebug or Chrome’s Inspector installed to monitor these things).  Or anything else (i.e. did your host change anything that you know of)?  These could help point the dev team in the right direction.

I just tested “Invite Anyone” on my test site and all the setting options are changing, saving, and working correctly for me and invitations are being sent out correctly.  I am wondering if you have a plugin conflict somewhere…

For the Wiki issue – can you go to the permalinks and click update to see if that might solve the link issue?  Which permalink setting are you using?  Did you possibly deactivate the BP Wiki plugin?

Is it possible to share your site’s URL?

Sorry for all these questions!  Thanks.

    Hi Eyal —

I know that Ray is working on a new version of RBE that may help avoid
these problems in the future. As a first trouble-shooting step, you might
try disabling and then re-enabling the RBE plugin — that has worked on
some of our installs in the past to get RBE working again. Ray will
hopefully be able to chime in here soon with other thoughts.

    Best,

    Matt

    Dear Scott and Matt,

Thank a lot for your prompt replies!

Email notifications – possibly solved. I finally followed this discussion  and this one, installed the WP Mail SMTP plugin and configured it to work with Gmai. It seems that this solved the problem of the RBE channeled email notifications to and from forums. Though RBE seems to work now, I would like to check its stability for a couple of days.

Invite Anyone – still a problem.  I re-installed the plugin and reactivated it but still the same behavior – default settings cannot be changed.

Wiki -solved.  I followed Scott’s advice –  saving the permalinks helped to fix the problem (though I did not change configuration, which is Day and name). Stupidly enough, long ago I deactivated the BP Wiki plugin and forgot to reactivated.

Many thanks again for your help!

    Hi Eyal,

Glad to hear that switching to using a SMTP plugin solved your problems with email notifications. It sounds like your site sends quite a bit of email!

Please keep us updated on how BP Reply By Email is functioning. Matt is correct that I’m working on a new version, which will be more stable. When I have more info about that, I’ll post a topic in the forums for testers.

    Thank you Ray,

Our site just started to become functional, so we still do not have much email traffic. However, the possibility to send forum messages by email was almost a prerequisite for many people, who would have otherwise, preferred other methods of communication (possibly, old fashioned mailing lists). It seems that the need to log into yet another site, poses a barrier for many people.

In this regard the RBE plugin is a real asset as it allows our users to enjoy the amazing web interface and networking capabilities provided by CBOX together with the ease of use of an email based forum.

Looking forward to the new version of RBE.

Thanks again for all the work you invested so far – as you see, it is very much appreciated.

    Eyal
