I suspect this is a BuddyPress usage issue and not a CBOX issue, but is it possible to:

    (1) allow the imbedding of media in “Group>Forum” posts as can be done in regular posts? and

    (2) allow the posting of a post within Groups as opposed to restricting the posting to just “updates”.  This would also allow the inclusion of media? and

    (3) allow individuals to post regular posts under their profile, as opposed to simply updates? (same reason)

and lastly to do so easily without muddling with CSS, creating child themes etc.?  As far as I can tell, in the Visual editor, it is not even possible to include in html link without going to the Text editor.  (It may be that I am looking at BuddyPress/CBOX from a different and wrong perspective, so am happy to have someone give me some perspective.  I am using WP3.5 and CBOX 1.o on a local MAMP server setup and not using MU)

PS – Great to see the launch of 1.0!!

    Hi Gary –

In your setup, are you able to post new topics?  When I click on that button I see “Your account has the ability to post unrestricted HTML content” in a yellow text box.  While not totally user friendly, I can type in some rudimentary HTML that includes images (and if you highlight text, the toolbar provides for linking).  I’m sure media handling can be improved, and I’ve already written a ticket about that.  I agree, it would be really nice to click on an icon and provide an image link.

If on the other hand, your setup is only allowing “Announcements”, there might be some issue with your Group setup – you might want to read https://commonsinabox.org/documentation/buddypress-vs-bbpress-forums

Thanks again for your testing support!

    Hi Gary,

Everything you listed are applicable to BuddyPress. I’ll briefly go over your points below:

    (1) allow the imbedding of media in “Group>Forum” posts as can be done in regular posts?

You have a few options here. You can type in manual HTML as Scott stated or you can look into finding a bbPress plugin that handles uploads like GD bbPress Attachments.

    (2) allow the posting of a post within Groups as opposed to restricting the posting to just “updates”. This would also allow the inclusion of media?

    (3) allow individuals to post regular posts under their profile, as opposed to simply updates? (same reason)

Activity updates are meant to be simplistic like Facebook and Twitter. However, you are able to embed links to popular media sites like YouTube by simply pasting the URL on its own line.

For more info, check out this article:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds

It applies to BuddyPress as well.

However, if you want to embed media by uploading, you can look into some BuddyPress plugins (such as BP Media, BP Gallery, BP Activity Plus), however please note that we will not be offering 3rd-party support for them as we have not vetted these plugins for inclusion into CBOX.
