CBOX-THEME-CHILD: switching between themes? "Hold onto your CSS, Ma – tight!"

    I posted this issue on WordPress.org, but am posting here now, based on the encouragement that this is the right place :-).

    I’m loving the plugin suite, its orchestration and it custom theme. But below I describe a scary surprise I had with the theme.

    I switched briefly away from my cbox-theme-child to the default buddypress theme in order to test something. When I switched back, my header image was gone, and – worse – my LONG “Custom CSS” which I had entered in the CBOX theme options panel was GONE! (Well, it had strangely reverted from 891 lines to my much earlier 3. Hmph.)

    Two recovery strategies.

    I recovered by putting my browser into Offline mode, and – luckily – was able to recover the CSS from a cached page (by looking at wp-content/uploads/exports/cbox-theme-child/dynamic.css?ver=3.5, which embeds the content of “Custom CSS.”
    I searched the database and found in the options table, option_name icext.9887611a.cbox-theme, containing the full CSS. I am not sure why, when I reselected the theme, an earlier version of my CSS, rather than this most recent one, loaded.

    I presume the rest of my theme settings are somewhere in the database (in records with non-descript names like, icext.29f718ab.cbox-theme-child, of which there are many), too; but it seems easier to just go through and re-enter it manually. 🙁

    Is my experience an abberation? Or is this what’s expected when switching away and then back to the theme?

    I like the elegance of storing such theme data in the database; however, I’m wary, ’cause now it’s scary.

    P.S.: I’m attempting to attach what I believe to be the basic files in my child theme. I don’t think I’m not leaving anything out.

    Hi Brendan,

    One of our theme developers is putting together some docs for creating a CBOX child theme. Hopefully it’ll get posted sometime this week.

    As for your problem about your CSS not being detected, did you originally use the CBOX parent theme to save your CSS? And later on, did you activate your CBOX child theme and save another version of the CSS?

    If so, that’s probably the problem as there are two copies of your CSS relating to different themes – the CBOX parent theme and the CBOX child theme.

    If not, then we might have to troubleshoot the issue a little more.
