Having a weird issue with forum topics in a newly created private group. I can create a first topic from Group > Forum > New topic but cannot create a second one.

When I try, no new topic shows up. It’s not visible in the group, nor does it appear as an activity item, nor does it appear in Dashboard > Topics.

I can create a new topic in the forum from Dashboard > Topics > New topic.

It’s only the “New topic” functionality within the group’s pages that is broken. And only after creating the first topic. I’ve tried deleting all topics so that there are 0 topics in the forum. I can always create a first topic using “New topic” – but I can’t create subsequent topics this way.

I want all group members to be able to create new topics, and they won’t have Dashboard access, so right now I have no way to allow member-generated topic creation.

Hi Paul – Thanks for reporting this.  I tried similar scenario on my test site and it seemed to work.  Are you running the latest version of CBOX?  Also, when you say no new topic shows up, I am assuming you mean the “New Topic” button is not available?  Is this true even if you click on the “Forum” tab and leave the first topic thread?  And is the problem also found in public groups or is it isolated to private groups?  Sorry for all the questions – just trying to understand better so that the dev team will have some information to work on.  Thanks!

Actually, the “New topic” button is available. But after I create the new topic and press “Submit,” no new topic is created. Again, I created a first topic in the forum. It’s only when I try to create subsequent topics that the problem arises. This is a brand new, private group. I haven’t tested to see whether the problem occurs in other groups, private or public, but I’ll do some testing and let you know what I find.

    Thanks for the prompt reply!

Just to clarify: pressing “Submit” does produce a browser response. It’s not as though the button is deactivated. But no new topic is recorded. It doesn’t appear in the forum or in Dashboard > Topics.

Make sure your forum topics are not being marked as spam.

To check if this is the case, login to the WP admin dashboard and navigate to “Topics > Spam”. If you do not see a “Spam” link beside the “All” and “Published” links, then you have no spammed topics.

The topics weren’t going to spam. However, the problem appears to be resolved. At the time I was having the problem, the group had a total of two members, both of whom had admin status. Once a first topic had been posted by one of them, neither could post a second topic. (Both members were identities controlled by me. They were logged in on the same machine but in separate browsers.)

I added a third member to the group at “Member” status. Once I did this, all three members were able to post topics. I posted a total of 4 test topics; one was a second post from an admin.
