Hi everyone!
We at the Modern Language Association just launched a new minimalist theme for our CBOX-based website, MLA Commons. It’s a fairly major re-imagining of the CBOX theme. Here are a few of the things we did:
- fixed a number of bugs, like the border around the text box I’m typing in right now
- modernized the buttons to simple, flat ones
- gave buttons, buttony links, and tabs a fairly consistent look
- took out gradients, lines, and other 3-D elements wherever possible
- removed redundant messages from the PHP templates (like the forum loop which says “This forum contains 16 topics / Viewing 15 topics, 1 – 15 of 16 topics”)
- regularized and standardized the design across plugins, so that it looks as seamless as possible
- included a forked version of the buddypress-docs plugin which rethemes the way docs display
- updated the typography
- added a slick jQuery dropdown menu for our “Help” section
Check it out at commons.mla.org. Feel free to use any of the code for your own projects, too. It’s all up at our GitHub repository.
Oh, and if there are any maintainers of this site who see this message, it’d be great if we could update the screenshot and link for our site in Showcase so that it reflects the current state. Thanks in advance!
