Hi, by launching the commons abundance network (http://commonsabundance.net/) , we are planning to get communities of social practice around the commons to exchange experience and more (http://commonsabundance.net/home-page/about/objectives/), learn and collaborate on projects, so we are very interested in proposing an effective series of collaboration tools.

We are in particular looking for group based collaboration tools. Collaborative docs are indispensable, and we are also looking for chat text/video, calendars of events, tasks, possible integration of Trello. I remember reading some posts by Boone Gorges about collaboration developments. Not quite sure where it was. How far can we go? Are there any smart plugins we can install that aren’t yet in the recommended list?

The other question we have is about the possibility to link members to wiki elements (TOC/categories/taxonomy) and then make queries on people in relation to these elements to match people with interests. How could we go about with this? This is probably something that has been thought through for academic commons.

    Thanks in advance 🙂

    Helene –

I haven’t configured it yet, but Zapier allows for automated creation of Trello cards, boards, and/or lists from WordPress posts or other components. Might be an option.

I’m also keeping an eye out for the best way to integrate with Trello as well as a calendaring solution that integrates with the activity stream/buddypress, but a lighter/faster  than the Events Manager plugin.

Thanks Charise! Keep me posted if you test Zapier. Have you tried the Event Manager plugin?

Otherwise are there any solutions for chat and tasks?

    Thanks!

    For tasks, try out CollabPress:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/collabpress/

Boone, one of the developers on CBOX, contributes to CollabPress and I know there is some form of BuddyPress integration.

For the others, there are a few event plugins out there that integrate with BP like Charise mentioned, however I haven’t tested all of them, so can’t give a recommendation on one.

For chat, there are a few plugins in the WP plugins repo that claim BuddyPress support:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/chat

Again, I haven’t tested any of these.

Hi @charise, have you found ways to integrate Trello? And an effective event/calendar?

I have uploaded Collabpress and it’s the very newly released 1.3 version so there are some bugs there that they are working to fix I hear. Though the project/task features even when operational are far from being as effective as Trello’s.

I’m wondering though how this could be put to work with Trello together with a zapier type of app integrator. This would require:

Automatic login via the WP login:
Board generated automatically via add project. And embedded automatically via iFrame under project description.
Tasks automatically generating an entry in the calendar…
And that would be it, Trello up and running ‘within’ CBox?

Unfortunately I’m not equiped with the skills to execute that…
