    Hi folks –

First I want to say that I’ve been looking for something like this for quite some time. I’ve always wanted functionality that could enable divergent/nested group membership within the same messaging platform; and I’ve always thought that wikis and blogs are natural complements. It’s a bundle that makes a lot of sense, and I’m surprised it took so long for someone to put it all together – thanks for blazing the path!

I’m curious to see some of the (relatively non-technical) conceptualization on your end. So far on the site I’ve seen the technical specs behind CBOX plugins, but I wonder if you have a writeup that explains your vision for why these technologies belong together, and how they inter-relate. (I could describe the “commoning” potential I see in the interconnectivity — but I’m curious to see it, and share it, in others’ words.)

Sorry if this is question is both stupid-simple and wonky. Any links, suggestions, postulations, welcome!

    Great question, Gregory.

Also, here is a presentation I did that explicitly sets the CUNY Academic Commons within discussions of the commons more generally:

    Coverage of the talk: http://www.dangerouslyirrelevant.org/2011/10/mobility-shifts-day-2-privacy-surveillence-and-the-academic-commons-guest-post.html

I hope that some of this is helpful. We’re definitely interested in continuing this conversation.

Awesome! I will read through these over the weekend. And I figure I’ll be back here with more questions/thoughts soon enough…

CBOX has its roots in the CUNY Academic Commons, which in turn was made possible through funding from The City University of New York itself.
