The new slider is sounding great… Couple of additional thoughts:
Provide an ‘x’ on the caption to allow the user to turn-off the slider caption to better see the photos
Provide an option for the site designer to do the same
Provide an option to adjust the width of the slider caption bar. (in an early version on an ad hoc basis the width was sometimes only a third of the screen. For some layouts this was appealing.)
I noted from earlier comments that some designers requested the ability to hyperlink the caption. I personally think this is a small point.August 6, 2013 at 11:30 am #3294Gary DavisParticipantThanks Bowe. I found I could get the captions to display by deleting and re-adding the Site Feature. However the “post title” comes up ok but the “post text” shows “text […]”. If there is no text in the post there is still a line with […], at least in my setup.
With respect to loading time. I think version 1.04 probably waited to show the site until the slider was loaded. I noticed it was a bit slow in the past but didn’t worry about it. Now the site loads quickly and the slider is slow. However, this is likely user error, I must have been lazy as the photos are way to large to use in the slider.

Tried connecting as friend to send you a side message to no avail. I noticed you also had slider caption issues as least from my Safari browser.
(PS, thanks for the link via your site to patrickjmt.com… he should be as popular as khanacademy.com)

I found that (1) loading of photos on the slider was noticeably slower (2) the captions came up as […] and (3) at least one photo came up with a different crop that decapitated the individuals. Good to know. I also just found and had good luck with “Private Community for BP” (http://bphelpblog.wordpress.com). The results mirror what the Private Community option does for all the non BP pages.

July 31, 2013 at 10:21 am #3243Gary DavisParticipantDoes anyone know what code or short code is necessary to be add to new templates that allow “Private Community” to apply to a page using a non-Infinity theme template? For example, I am using a Gallery plugin that has it’s own template that I would like to modify to keep the galleries private.
A corollary (in order to be complete): is there a short code to turn off “Private Community” for a particular page?
(I was unable to sleuth the answer myself)
July 4, 2013 at 9:04 pm #3092Gary DavisParticipantThanks much @rkilkenny you’ve gotten me closer. MPO seems to be designed only for multisite but it opens the door from me to try a few other plugins that might work for a single-stie. Or if time permits I might try to figure out what code is working on the BuddyPress pages and attempt to port it over to the other pages.
July 4, 2013 at 4:40 pm #3089Gary DavisParticipantSure:
1. I am using the C-Box default theme version 1.o2
2. I created a new page called test using default template (called test) Similarly a gallery page using a template created by the plugin.
3. On my installation, the home page is not protected, nor is the Forums landing page, though the individual posts are protected . However Member, Groups and Activity are protected and require registration.
You can see this at the site esaw.ca if you wish.
July 4, 2013 at 4:02 pm #3087Gary DavisParticipantI have been wrestling with the same issue however I am not using any additional plugins . With CBOX Theme Options>BuddyPress>Private Community> set to On, the standard site pages are pretty much locked down. Any additional pages are not protected as is with rkilkenny. I have not had a chance to look to see if there is a shortcode in C-Box that can be added to a page or a security function that can be added to the page templates.
On non-C-Box sites, I have had great success with WP-Members. I have not had a chance to try it out with C-Box
January 27, 2013 at 1:41 am #1838Gary DavisParticipantTwo Thumbs Up!
BTW I think the section is CBOX Theme Options>> as opposed to Theme “Plugins”
January 26, 2013 at 6:22 pm #1830Gary DavisParticipantDitto Chuck.
Hoenera. How are your students posting documents (pdfs) within a group? In CBOX (a pretty good example of what we are trying to set up) the only place to upload any document is the forums “Attachments:” For reference, I am not on multisite so that may be why we seem to be venus and mars here.
January 26, 2013 at 5:43 pm #1828Gary DavisParticipantThis Plugin has the right lineage but I have yet to try it: Forums Attachement for BuddyPress It seems to require a bit of tweaking that can be found at the Plugins website.
January 26, 2013 at 5:26 pm #1825Gary DavisParticipantI had a similar question. It seems CBOX is using a plugin (or code) that allows attachments in forums which would be a great start. Just a hint as to what plugin was used would be perfect.
December 18, 2012 at 8:55 pm #1446Gary DavisParticipantI had a similar problem at the second tip but did not get the error message. I could not repeat the problem on a fresh install.
December 16, 2012 at 12:57 pm #1427Gary DavisParticipantThis seems to be a problem with the CBOX Theme. The BuddyPress Theme showed the accounts and content manager tabs.
