BP 1.7 was released on Friday [http://buddypress.org/2013/02/buddypress-1-7-beta-1/].
That blog post recommends “If you’re just starting your first BuddyPress site, we encourage you to start with the 1.7 beta rather than 1.6.4, so that you’re familiar with what’s coming rather than what’s passed.”
My judgment is that it is going to be easier to redo my earlier work than migrate my existing BP group forums to bbPress forums [due to some site specific issues on my site not that it can’t be done: http://codex.buddypress.org/user/buddypress-site-administration/migrating-from-old-forums-to-bbpress-2/]. (This will also solve the problem of remembering how to instal the BP compatible version of my theme as BP 1.7 overcomes that issue.)
My question is: how do I update the Buddy Press plug in from 1.6.x to 1.7 while it is in Beta and hence not in the WordPress plugin repository?
I downloaded the 1.7 beta .zip file from BP site & uploaded using the dashboard plugin installer. Installation failed: “Destination folder already exists. /home/consumer/public_html/dev2/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/”.
Also are there likely to be too many any issues for Commons in a Box running with BP 1.7?
Thanks
