Hi, we experienced a problem with sending a message to all users (i.e. composing message via the ‘normal’ compose message page and checking “This is a notice to all users” box):

The message is not send to users by email as any normal message would
It does not arrive as a message in users inbox with a message notification as any normal message would
It is displayed in the side bar of members & activity page taking up all the space if the message is long!
There is a “close” link at the end of the sidebar notice, and the message dissapears totally once close is clicked.

While it could be useful to have a notice box appear on the sidebar for hyper urgent short admin notices such as announces of site maintainance or specific issues (though this can be done easily by adding a formated text in the sidebar via the widget), it is not at all the same as sending out a ‘normal’ announcement or message to all users.

Is this a bug? Has anyone already observed this behavior? Is there a way to specify ‘All users’ as destinatary in the “Send to” box, without checking the “This is a notice to all users” box in order to have the same behavior as sending a regular message to designated users?

If not, how can this be fixed?
This is on http://commonsabundance.netThanks for your assistance 🙂

    Hi Helene —

What you’re describing is how BuddyPress’s “notice to all users” works — it adds an onsite notification for all users but doesn’t send an email, as you found. See more about that here – http://buddypress.org/support/topic/notice-to-all-users/

If you want to send a plain-text message (no HTML) to your users, you can try a plugin like “Sitewide Newsletter” ( https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sitewide-newsletter/screenshots/ ), which has worked well for us on a CBOX install.
