We’re really interested in moving to bbPress 2.4 in order to get nested replies in forums.
Would it better to wait until the CBOX plugin updates to 2.4?
Is it possible for me to simply overwrite the bbPress plugin on my own before CBOX does? Or will I break something?
Interested in this question too.

bbPress 2.4 is an important update, but we usually do a bit of testing before upgrading the internal plugin versions in CBOX. We haven’t had the chance to test bbPress 2.4 yet.

You can overwrite the bbPress plugin on your own. It will not break anything as far as the core of CBOX is concerned. However, you might notice bugs in bbPress that might have popped up since the last version.
That being said, CBOX also has an internal switch that will allow you to view all CBOX plugins on the regular plugins management page. If you’re feeling adventurous, read this article for more info:

Hi @r-a-y, I’ve been hearing of the bbpress update for threaded forums for a while now… It’s good to know that you will be testing it. So how far along the line will we see this available? We have members leaving our site or asking for conversations to move to eForum because they don’t like the forum we are providing… I had hoped the last update of Cbox would include that…
@helenef – I appreciate that you’re anxious to try out bbPress 2.4. We are as well!
If you want to help us test, as I mentioned earlier, you are able to manually upgrade to bbPress 2.4 if you are interested in testing and letting the bbPress community and users of the CBOX Theme know of any bugs.
Maybe we can look at using demo.commonsinabox.org as a testing ground. I’ll bring it up as a suggestion and see what we can do.
@r-a-y that would be cool! We’ve been coping with lots of teething problems… And I’m sometimes surprised to see that this site or even CUNY aren’t more of a testing ground for making it easier for us first adopters… There seems to be lots of stuff developed on Cuny that we don’t have access to, or the slightest idea of… Though that was the initial pitch!
