    Hi

Is there a way to set the order of groups on the home page [or in the sidbars]?

    Eg

    – make one Group sticky

    – have oldest first not newest as the default

    – default to most active rather than newest

    Thanks

Hi Gordon – BuddyPress provide three different views for Groups – “Newest” , “Active”, and “Popular”.  The hyperlinks are available just to the right of “Groups” (people often don’t see them).

You might want to look for a plugin that provides more control over group organization.  I noticed one called BP Group Organizer –  http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-group-organizer/- I’ve never tried it, but you could check it out to see if it provides the flexibility you’re looking for.

Thanks Scott, I will investigate other plugin possibilities. Having images would be a plus. Getting regular html to work on the existing plugin would be great though, such a a <br> or a link that opens a new window (target=_blank for example does not work, is erased out of the html code.

    Thanks Scott.

    1. Yes I can see the links to Newest, Active, Popular – at the moment they make no difference which is a bit strange as the oldest group has had the most activity on the site … but let’s wait and see if that gets better.

    2. The list seems to default to Newest which means the most important group for my users is below the fold … it would be good to be able to control so Most active was at the top  by default …

    3. I will explore the plug in you mention, thanks for the tip.

Hi it seems you can select the default group ordering on the group widget.

Though on the sidebars the title ‘groups’ that comes by default in the widget appears even if there’s no title specified, and the it comes over the newest/active/popular text… Bug?

Hi – I notice that the “Groups” title and the “newest/active/popular” text overlay each other when the sidebar width is set to 20%.  But when it is 25% it seems fine for me.  And yes – I didn’t know – you can set the default order for your groups in the widget itself – either newest, active, or popular.  Thanks for pointing this out.  And (unlike the Members) widget, the Group widget seems to default its title back to “Groups” when you set to blank.  I think these widgets are part of BuddyPress core.
