Do I need to be on a network?

Hello. It’s me again. I posted two days ago as a brand new member of the CIB family. I’m beginning to wonder if I made the right choice with CIB. I saw the CUNY Academic Commons website and was REALLY impressed by the site. I’m interested in creating a website that functions as a social community. I am not, however, building the platform on a network; I’m simply wanting to create an online space for people to interact in community. Does the CIB buddypress platform assume or require working on a network? Am I making a simple project much more difficult than it need be?

Hi Guy – By “network” I’m thinking that you are wondering if CBOX needs to run on a multisite WP installation?  If that is your concern – no, you can run CBOX on a single installation of WordPress.

If you are looking for your community to create and join groups, discuss issues, share and collaborate on docs, create wiki pages, automatically notify each other when content is posted, and optionally do much more, then CBOX might be a good fit for you.  (You can selectively shut off some of these features, if you want.)  If you just want a site with a discussion forum, maybe CBOX is a more complicated solution – though it would probably still work for you.

CBOX has its roots in the CUNY Academic Commons, which in turn was made possible through funding from The City University of New York itself.
