I realized that when users are on other blog sites within my Commons network but are logged off, there is no way to navigate back to the main Commons site. I’ve noticed this is not the case with other sites I look at (and I am not a registered user of these sites) such as CUNY Academic Commons, MLA Commons, etc.

I searched for more information about this, and saw some discussion on customization of the toolbar (or admin bar??). One posting I saw mentioned My Sites>Network Admin>Settings>Custom Admin Bar, where you could then do things like get rid of the WordPress logo display. Problem is, my settings don’t have such as option, although this would be totally perfection! How can I get this option!? 🙂

I also need to take the Register link off, as the site I am working on will be invitation only at least for the outset. I am not sure I want to download a plugin (especially if the information is in German, as with one I saw), and I don’t know CSS (although I have access to people who do….)

    Thanks!

    Hi @ebrown2600 –

I’m not sure but I think the developers tweaked the admin bar code a bit to get it the way they wanted for the CUNY Academic Commons.  There are a bunch of free admin bar plugins that you can investigate – and one premium plugin found here – https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/custom-admin-bar/ that probably does exactly what you want.

There are some settings in buddypress – (from dashboard – Settings>>BuddyPress) that you might look at in terms of displaying registration page and showing admin bar to logged out users.

    Hope this helps.

Hi, I’m using AG Custom Admin but I am not sure if it works well with the CBOX theme. I installed the CBOX theme today.

Hi, @ScottVoth, thanks! That premium plugin looks good plus I’ll search around for some others as well. And I’ll check on the settings you mentioned in BuddyPress.

Hi, @georges, thanks for the recommendation. If you end up using AG Custom Admin with CBOX, please let me know how that works for you.

Hi, just to update, I installed the AG Custom Admin, which is really nice, but it only seems to apply to the admin bar once someone is logged in. I searched their support forum and others seem to have asked about this, so I think I am understanding correctly. I just wanted to report back on that since my situation is mainly to find something that changes the admin/toolbar for logged out users. I realize this is a holiday weekend for many but if anyone sees this and has a suggestion, I’m all ears! Otherwise, I’ll try searching for something else. Thanks again!!
