    Hi All,

We’re creating a site for kids to help get them involved in our Educational Gaming platform “Planet Earthlings.” I want to create a fully animated custom page using parallax effect. Want to do something like http://www.exsus.com/highway-one-roadtrip or http://www.spaceneedle.com/home/ though not nearly so sophisticated.

I’m studying building a custom WordPress theme, slicing the images, etc, but I want to know is:

Is it going to be difficult to have a custom home page and then use the standard Commons-in-a-Box theme for the rest of the site?

Thanks in advance for any input or assistance.

    Cheers, Greg

Hi Greg, there are a couple of approaches that you could try.

If you’re going to create your own page template, you can do so using a CBOX child theme. You would create your custom template in the child theme and either (a) apply it to the existing homepage or (b) define a new page based on that template as your homepage.

There also seem to be a number of plugins that offer this functionality but I would still recommend using a CBOX child theme so you can adjust the style of their output appropriately.

    Cheers, Christian

Thanks Christian…I’ll definitely try it as you’ve suggested. Design is looking quite cool. Sure hope we can integrated it seamlessly into the CBOX site.

    All the best, Greg
