Couldn’t find it at first but realised you have to instal it – so the Dashboard message which says it is bundled could be improved by noting that you have to instal it and linking to that page …

    Hi Gordon –

The theme is included with the plugin.  After you install CBOX, there is a section on the right that looks like the screenshot I have attached. You should be able to go to “Commons in a Box” on your dashboard, and see the option to use the CBOX default theme.  (On the left will be a section called “Quick Links” and on the right “Theme”.)  You’ll need to click the hyperlink to install the theme.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks

Yes  as per OP I worked it out but the Standard CBOX advice on the CBOX dashboard when you don’t have an OK theme when going through the set up doesn’t mention that you have to install it and how – it just says ‘bundled with’ with no link or suggestion. So this is a suggestion that you clarify that .

And with BP 1.7 coming I guess you need to rewrite that whole message. BTW my experience using BP 1.7 with a regular theme wasn’t all that pretty – lots of CSS was going to be needed – hence why I came back to CBOX theme and why I think many will want to do that ..

While I am on my soap box, two more things I’ve noticed working with CBOX for the last few days:

    1. One  confusing thing for end users about CBOX is the ‘Home’ Menu item in the sidebar [not the Home menu item in a typical site eg https://commonsinabox.org/%5D. You would think it would take you to the site home but of course it takes you to the Group Home – maybe Group Home would be a better name?

    2. The Documentation is a bit confusing at the tab ‘Themes’. I went searching there quite a lot for instiructsion about how to configure the default CBOX theme but of course all that is there is info abou Customising it.

Can I suggest that the item CBOX Dashboard would be better placed under ‘Themes’ and before the Developer info.

‘Group Home’ title sounds like an excellent idea. I’m concerned my users may get very lost in CBox.

Incidentally, I wasn’t able to nest this reply.

On my first attempt at installation I activated the BuddyPress default theme in error – I think anyone who reads the top paragraph attentively (rather than scrolling down) after installing BuddyPress in the CBOX setup routine is liable to do this – there are 3 links in that paragraph, none of them related to the CBOX theme.
