    Hi folks:

I run the plugin “GD bbPress Attachments” to add attachments to forums on the site. I can upload word documents just fine, but a student tried to upload a small “kmz” file and got this message: “Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.”  Thinking it was permission, I tried it and got the same message. Is the “security reason” something I’m missing in the dashboard, or is it a plugin issue? I checked the plugin settings and saw nothing.

Any thoughts? All help is appreciated.

    Hi Chuck,

I don’t know anything about “GDbb…” Though it does sound interesting.

I have installed a mime type plugin, and it seems to do the trick for adding file types not allowed to the blog in general, perhaps it would help in your applicaton: AP Extended Mime Types.

    Hope this helps.

hoenera’s advice is solid; I believe you’ll have to let WordPress know of your new file type as GD bbPress Attachments uses WP’s Media Library functionality to do uploads.

Before allowing any old extension to be whitelisted, you should do some research to see if it’s a good idea to allow that file type.

FYI, hoenera, GD bbPress Attachments is what is used for attachments on this site. We’re using this site to test it out.

    I think I’m adding a new plugin:

    Ray, or anyone:

where does this option come from:

OK so the screenshot doesn’t display as I’d intended, however if you click it you’ll see the rest.

    “Reason for revision….”

This I would use also, since mine is a network of Graphic Design coursblogs, Reason for revision could prove to be quite useful — is it custom type/taxonomy sort of thing?

Hoenera: It worked! Thanks so much–I would have never figured that out on my own. This will be a HUGE help to my students, and to me. You will get all due credit in class tomorrow.  Thanks again for taking the time.

I’m honored, thanks. I’d be curious to see how you’re employing Cbox for your classes, and I’d be happy to share ours, ours is however not open to the public, I’d have to create user/pw info. hoenera@newpaltz.edu

Ray, thanks for reaffirming the advice–it worked and so far so good.

hoenera–our site is not “ready for the public” either but were almost there, as soon as I can migrate to a different server. I’d definitely like to see what you’re up to once all of these things become visible.

    Chuck,

in my case, our site is ready, it’s just not intended as a public site. I can however set you up as a visitor.
