    Hello,

Since days I’m testing the CBOX theme on a local machine, and it looks great! I created and activated a Child Theme for some possible modifications.

In the footer we have the text: “Powered by Commons In A Box” and I’d like to have instead something like this: “© 2013 Commons In A Box” with the year automatically changing!

To get this working, the code line should be this one:

    &copy; <?php echo date(‘Y’); ?> <a href=https://commonsinabox.org>Commons In A Box</a>

I’m not sure where to type this code in my Child Theme (where in “functions.php”, “footer.php”, both files or anywhere else)? Or what is the better method with a Child Theme to have an automatically updating year in the footer’s copyright area?

    Thanks!

Hi Steve – I think you can change the text of the footer if you go to Appearance>>CBOX Theme  Options>>Global Footer Text

But I think that you should use a Creative Commons License, rather than the copyright sign.  Commons in a Box is an open source project.  see http://creativecommons.org/choose/ for more info.  Thanks!

Hello Scott – thank you for your answer.

You’re right for the copyright sign, and I’m glad to see that CBOX is an open source project.

    I already tried to add the line “<?php echo date(‘Y’); ?> <a href=https://commonsinabox.org>Commons In A Box</a>” through Appearance>>CBOX Theme  Options>>Global Footer Text

but the year didn’t appear in the footer… That’s the reason why I thought I should type something in “functions.php”, “footer.php” or another php file?

Help!  I am new, and I can’t figure out why my CBOX members don’t have a blog option on their dashboard.  The only option available is “profile.” I tried to install the buddy press group blog, but I can’t figure out where to enable it.  It says to do that in the directions, but it doesn’t say how.  Sigh.

Hi Steve – Although that text box does not accept php code, it seems to accept simple javascript.  You might try to copy and modified the code found here – http://www.logicalthings.com/blog/2011/01/always-display-the-current-year-in-your-copyright-notice/ – I tried and it worked.  Might be a simpler solution.

Hi Scott – Once again thank you for your answer. I can’t figure out why the php code doesn’t work, but the javascript code you found works fine!

The only thing for users is that they must have javascript enabled in their browser settings.
