    I’m trying to work out how to bump activity to the top. I can’t even get it to work if someone comments on an old post in the activity stream, It still won’t bump to the top of the page. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

    Can you give us a more specific idea of what you are talking about? For
    starters, are you describing an activity page in a single group or on the
    activity page of multi-site network install? Maybe a screenshot would help.

    I am really just looking for an ‘activity record’, either in a group or within the main activity stream, to move to the top of the page when a comment is left in reply – in the same way that the forum here works (I can’t seem to convert my users into using the forum, they like the activity stream or chatrooms because they seem more instantaneous).

    Using the screenshot as an example (albeit not a very good one because the the activity record is at the top!) – if Rebecca wants to comment on Jason’s post update, she can but if the post update was on page 4, that is where it will stay regardless of how many people comment.

    Not sure I fully understand what you’re trying to do, Sam, but what we’ve done on the CUNY Academic Commons and elsewhere is to try to drive people to the forum posts, which I think are superior for conversation (for one thing, it’s easier to find threads at a later date). You can do that through CBOX by unchecking the following option in Settings > BuddyPress

    Blog & Forum Comments Allow activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts

    This may not address your question and could be an unwanted change for your users, but it may be one solution.

    Hi Matthew, thanks for the reply, my lack of coherence is probably due to my confusion over the whole topic! I have had a quick look at the CUNY Academic Commons site and I can see that Activity is marked as News but are all forum posts held under groups? If I am to make the change, I’m looking for a forum that would be publicised to all members – like activity (we are significantly smaller than CUNY so too many forums spreads members too thinly). The advantage with the commons in a box forum is that there are a minimal number of groups – only 2 I think, where I have quite a lot. Could you just walk me through whether you have a forum that publicises to all your members and if so do you have:

    • a forum in a specific group where everyone is automatically a member ;
    • a whole load of different groups each with their own specific forums;  or
    • do you use the bbpress sitewide forum? Is so where/how is that labelled on the CUNY site?

    I think therein lies another of my problems, there are so many different forums that rather than choose which one to use they post to activity instead.

    In answer to your previous question. I am running a single site. Is it possible to convert to a multi-site once you have gone live?
