It would be great if the slider was optional, and could either be used as a slider or as a widget area.

I think this would give the home page an extra level of flexiility.

I registered on my site using a second email address and waited 5 days to activate the account. I can confirm that the account was not tagged as a splogger by WangGaurd, nor as a spammer by WordPress.

I agree with WangGaurd. The users are being marked as spammers, and not sploggers, so it would not be a WangGaurd issue.
