Hi Kirsch,
Since CBOX OpenLab is a WordPress plugin, the backup process would be the same as backing up your WordPress installation.
Check out the WordPress support article on backups here: https://wordpress.org/support/article/wordpress-backups/.
If you have any other questions after reading that article, let us know.
October 15, 2021 at 2:29 pm #9058RayKeymasterHi Kirsch,
The text strings you mentioned like “You are here” are a part of CBOX, not BuddyPress.
How are you doing the translations at the moment? If you are translating with help from a plugin like Loco Translate, you’ll need to translate for the
commons-in-a-box
textdomain as well. You can also help out with the Spanish translation for CBOX over at translate.wordpress.org: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/commons-in-a-box/
You will need a wordpress.org account in order to contribute. More info can be found here: https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/translating/glotpress-translate-wordpress-org/.
When the translation is at 90% for a specific language, I believe WordPress will send the translation out. I don’t quite remember the entire process. @cbox_admin can probably fill in the gaps.
October 15, 2021 at 2:10 pm #9057RayKeymasterHi Kirsch,
For deleting users, have you tried going to the “Network Admin > Users” page to delete the users? It should be available at example.com/wp-admin/network/users.php. Check out the WordPress support article here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Network_Admin_Users_Screen.
About installing themes, CBOX OpenLab comes bundled with the OpenLab theme. This theme takes over the main site, so if you were thinking about using Gantry for the main site, it’s not recommended. If you wanted to use Gantry for your secondary sites, you need to network-activate Gantry over on the “Network Admin > Themes” admin page (wp-admin/network/themes.php) so it will be available to activate on those sites. Check out the WordPress support article here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Network_Admin_Themes_Screen.
About profile styles, I’m not sure what you mean. Can you take a screenshot of what you are attempting to modify as well as a sample URL?
October 15, 2021 at 12:50 pm #9056RayKeymasterHi Kirsch,
Since CBOX OpenLab is built on WordPress, you can either use a WordPress plugin to handle domain mapping or you can natively set custom domains on a per site basis.
Domain mapping can be quite tricky to set up. If you’re interested in the built-in method that comes with WordPress, check out this guide: https://wpmudev.com/blog/domain-mapping-wordpress-multisite/
See if the built-in method works for you. If you need more functionality, you can go the plugin route.
Hope that helps!
October 11, 2021 at 3:28 pm #9047RayKeymasterHi Evan,
We do not provide these types of policies with CBOX because the types of sites using CBOX can vary, but it’s a good question to ask.
WordPress ships with a default privacy policy template. You could probably start with that: https://wordpress.org/support/article/settings-privacy-screen/#using-privacy-settings-tool
If you need more sites for reference, check out the following to perhaps use as a basis for your own: https://digital.com/privacy-policy-generators/
Those sites should also have templates for Terms of Service as well.
With regards to Guidelines for Participation, Mozilla has a pretty decent one that is licensed under the Creative Commons Sharealike license: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/governance/policies/participation/. Some other ones can be found here: https://www.webpurify.com/blog/community-guidelines-best-practices-examples/. As long as you cite their license and license your policy with a compatible license type, you can adapt it to work for your site.
Hope that helps!
October 7, 2021 at 5:30 pm #9028RayKeymasterThe problem is the
openlab-theme
does not support responsive videos natively.I’ve filed an issue here with some code to address this: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/commons-in-a-box/issues/371
Once the code is merged, you will not need to use your videowrapper DIV workaround.
September 23, 2021 at 5:06 pm #9000RayKeymasterIf you’ve applied Boone’s latest changeset to the openlab-theme: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/openlab-theme/commit/37c8fa29c3532d337705e7bbdf1748ff04f65d97
You don’t need the videowrapper DIV anymore in your post editor because the width of the video should be 500px or higher. If the video’s width is not at least 500px, let us know. If you’d prefer a larger default size, a fix will be needed for the openlab-theme.
The only reason why you’d want to use your videowrapper DIV is I’m guessing you want responsive-sized videos if the screen is too small? I’m not too familiar with the videowrapper code you’re using. Is that from another plugin?
September 22, 2021 at 7:11 pm #8998RayKeymasterHere’s the Reckoning CSV addon abstracted from the Commons:
https://commonsinabox.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/reckoning-csv.zipTo install, extract the ZIP contents to
/wp-content/mu-plugins/
and the “Download CSV” button should show up on the “Users > User Summary” admin page.If you prefer to activate the code on a per-site basis, extract the contents to
/wp-content/plugins/reckoning-csv/
and activate the plugin on the sites you wish to use it on.September 16, 2021 at 4:05 pm #8987RayKeymasterThanks for the report.
It looks like the bug stems from the OpenLab theme stripping the width and height attributes in post content. I’ve filed a bug here: https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/openlab-theme/issues/305
August 19, 2021 at 5:24 pm #8962RayKeymasterAhh, I did not know you had access to the Commons Github repository. I guess you do! 🙂
To be sure you have the right snippet, here’s the code:
https://pastebin.com/raw/CEpSch4zYou can save it to a file like
/wp-content/mu-plugins/co-authors-plus.php
.August 17, 2021 at 2:31 pm #8958RayKeymasterHi Syelle,
It looks like I didn’t share the code snippet in my previous post. If you still need it, let me know. Otherwise, glad to hear things are working for you.
August 3, 2021 at 4:28 pm #8951RayKeymasterHi Greg,
Sorry that we missed this report. Another user reported the same bug just now and we’ve added a fix:
https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/cbox-theme/commit/d54679cabc72a424fde7420c47bd76bb13661631To address this temporarily before the next release, update the
/cbox-theme/assets/js/superfish.js
file with this one:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cuny-academic-commons/cbox-theme/1.3.x/assets/js/superfish.jsLet us know if that works for you.
July 22, 2021 at 5:10 pm #8933RayKeymasterThanks for the additional feedback, Syelle.
I tried creating a new topic and then editing the topic twice with a normal user account and I did not experience any issues.
The “you already said that” message appears when bbPress detects a duplicate post. This message only appears when creating a new post and not when editing. Since your initial topic was marked as spammed, you probably copied and pasted the content from that post and tried to create a new topic with the same content. If you modify the content a little bit, the topic should be able to post though.
The following bbPress bug is probably what you’re experiencing: https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2341
July 22, 2021 at 3:05 pm #8927RayKeymasterHi Syelle,
Akismet, our anti-spam plugin, mistakenly caught one of your new topics as spam. The topic isn’t lost, but it’s hidden from view.
We can reinstate the topic, but I see you’ve already created the same one here: https://commonsinabox.org/groups/openlab-help-support/forum/topic/bugs-in-template/
In the future, when you get the spam message, let us know and one of us will reinstate the topic or reply for you.
July 19, 2021 at 9:04 pm #8909RayKeymasterHi Syelle,
We’re going to be including a fix for this in the next maintenance release for CBOX. We’re aiming for early August for the next release.
See
https://github.com/cuny-academic-commons/commons-in-a-box/issues/358
for all the forum fixes that will be included. -
