<p>I see what you mean with the admin bar.  On the CUNY Academic Commons, we make the labels a little clearer.  Can you try installing a plugin called &#8220;Adminimize&#8221; &#8211; <a href="https://wordpress.org/plugins/adminimize/" rel="nofollow ugc">https://wordpress.org/plugins/adminimize/</a></p>
<p>It gets good reviews from our dev team, and I think it will allow you to customize your admin bar as needed.</p>

<p>Wordfence seems like a nice plugin &#8211; I am not familiar at all with it &#8211; maybe someone else on this forum is?</p>
<p>It seems like it looks for important plugin updates and takes care of them, which maybe interferes with CBOX&#8217;s more conservative/careful plugin management?</p>
