Just as WordPress plugins extend WordPress’ core functionality, BuddyPress plugins add on to what BuddyPress does. There are over five hundred BuddyPress plugins on the WordPress repository, and selecting which ones work together can be extremely complicated. CBOX takes the guesswork out of selecting the best plugins for a “Commons” community. The plugins it manages are all actively maintained and supported.
One of CBOX’s goals is to streamline BuddyPress plugin configuration. We have selected a group of plugins that are fully tested to work together. As new versions come out, we will test to ensure compatibility, and will release a new version of CBOX. You will receive notification that there is a new version of the plugin available, and you simply agree to upgrade. Behind the scenes, CBOX will ensure your system is running with the latest, compatible versions of the BP plugins it manages.
CBOX has three plugin categories: required, recommended, and “a la carte” (or optional). During initial install, the required and recommended plugins are installed and activated. From the CBOX dashboard, you can deactivate the ones you don’t need. You can always re-activate them at a later date via the CBOX dashboard. When you upgrade to a newer version of CBOX, your configurations will be saved.
The “A la Carte” plugins are not automatically installed. If you want to use one of these, select its checkbox and click on the blue update button to install the plugin. Then you can toggle the activate/deactivate hyperlink from the CBOX dashboard. Once installed, these optional plugins will be managed by CBOX.
A list of required, recommended and optional plugins is provided in the sidebar menu. Click on each link for description, support and documentation information.
